Great Pillars Academy is a Montessori curriculum preschool to serve children aged 2 to 5 years old. GPA chose to use the Montessori method because it believes that it is the best method and has the best curriculum to stimulate every child's natural interest to become independent learners. Montessori Method was founded by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physcian, educator and innovator who spent her long life in dedicating to study, observe and improve the education of children and realized that every child wants to learn. She identified the "universal characteristics of childhood" regardless of where the children were born or what their status in life is. She then set out to act as an interpreter for children everywhere during her exposure to children of different culture, advising adults to adopt new approach to them and treat the period of childhood as an entity in itself not merely a preparation for adulthood. GPA children will be spending most of their time working in the Learning Area where they explore the Montessori Authentic learning materials in Practical Life, Math, language, Cultural and Science and Sensorial. Our school also has two art areas; one is used for living things exploration and the other one is for color exploration. One of the differences between a Montessori environment and a traditional classroom is that of a multi-aged environment. Self-esteem boosting for children in the program for more than one year. Each child has access to many “teachers,” not just the adults in the room to seek out help or guidance, but older children that know the material. d. Easier transitions. If you have an advanced child, your child is able to move through the curriculum at his own pace. f. Provides a family atmosphere where children develop sibling like relationships. Older children watch out for and nurture the younger children. The younger children learn from the older children and return the favor in the future years. One other aspect that makes us different from other schools is our structure. Our structure has choice. This structure is one of the precious gifts we can give our children. Learning to make good choices, learning to manage their time, manage their work, know what to prioritize, have a sense of responsibility, be conceptually masterful, help others, respect other's priority, see the goodness of others, etc. are the skills we want for our children in GPA. Our facilities include spacious learning area, 4 fully airconditioned rooms and learning area with cctv to ensure the children's safety and comfort, a playground to play at, 2 art spaces, and four comfort rooms for students, parents/guardians, guests, teachers and staff.
