‎Last week, the 𝗔𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 successfully held the SHS Week Debate Competition — bringing together sharp minds, strong arguments, and voices that weren’t afraid to be heard. From intense rounds to well-fought victories, it was a showcase of confidence, critical thinking, and the true spirit of debate.

The atmosphere was ablaze with 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗼𝗿 as debaters took the floor on 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 23, showcasing their talents in reasoning, analytical thinking, and the artful navigation of arguments through the art of debate.

The morning began with registration, followed by a 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱 𝘩𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘤𝘩-𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, during which teams gathered to articulate and organize their arguments in preparation for their debate matches.

The debate kicked off strong as 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀 (Hermosura, Pama, Singh) triumphed over 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝘂𝗲𝗹 (Sudoy, Amigo, Palacios). This was succeeded by the second match, in which 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗼 (Inting, Tulio, Craso) competed against 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝘂𝗲𝗹, and won the victory. 🏅✨

🏆 The highlight of the event was the 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 — 𝘢 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴, 𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯. In a thrilling finale, 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀 (Sola, Pama, Singh) faced off against 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗼 (Inting, Sulio, Craso). After a compelling exchange of logic and arguments, 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀 emerged as the 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻, a testament to the power of argumentation.

The event's success wouldn't have been possible without our 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿, 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗼, and 𝗖𝗼-𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗥𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗷𝗮, for their steadfast guidance, insightful feedback, and invaluable advice. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the 𝗕𝗧𝗦 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, for capturing the event through their lens. The Argentum Debate Society officially opened its Seminar and Workshop on October 22, Wednesday, with members proudly wearing their club shirts and joined by the SHS Society. Everyone came prepared to learn, share ideas, and explore the art of debate together. 👥✨

The morning session began with the registration of participants, followed by an engaging discussion led by Mrs. Charmaine Saturnino and Ms. Rialyn Baja titled “All About Debate: An Introduction to Debate and Argumentation.” They talked about the basics of debate—how to form strong arguments, speak with confidence, and think critically. The speakers also reminded everyone that debate is not only about winning, but also about expressing ideas clearly and respecting different opinions. 🎓💬

In the afternoon session, Dr. Jake Mercado delivered an insightful talk called “The Art of Argument: A Discussion on Fallacies and Rebuttals in Debate.” 💬 Before the discussion began, participants joined the icebreaker activity “Sell Me, Convince Me!”, where they showed off their creativity and persuasive skills by convincing others to “buy” random items—like a simple ballpen 🖊️—using only their words and charm. 🎯

Dr. Mercado’s session gave participants a better understanding of how to create logical arguments and identify fallacies that can weaken one’s reasoning. He also shared helpful techniques for making strong and confident rebuttals during debates. The talk inspired many to apply what they learned in future competitions and classroom discussions. 🧠📚

The first day wrapped up with laughter, teamwork, and valuable lessons that encouraged everyone to keep improving their debate skills. It marked the start of an exciting and meaningful learning journey for all participants. 🌟
