โSt. Augustine of Hippo
As LCCians, we say this together after every prayer. Behind this invocation lies the poignant story of St. Augustine of Hippo's transformation. His narrative tells of a sinner turned saintโa man who moved from a life of immorality to one full of virtue and peace. This became the central theme of his work, The Confessions, from which this famous line comes. Every year on August 28, we celebrate his Feast Day, marking the day he died in 430 ADโa date that immediately follows the feast day of his mother, St. Monica, on August 27.
As a young man, he lived a reckless and faithless life. Yet his mother prayed for his conversion for many years, a testament to the power of persistent love and patience. His story of change, growth, and faith, along with his teachings on grace, free will, and the nature of the human soul, continues to inspire many and profoundly shape lives.
