Today we commemorate the 20th Death Anniversary of Manlilikha ng Bayan Darhata Sawabi.

In Parang, Sulu, a group of women weavers were diligently engaged in the intricate process of creating the P*s Syabit. This traditional cloth tapestry holds great significance as it is worn as a head covering by the Tausug people of Sulu. Among these skilled weavers, Darhata Sawabi stood out as someone who wholeheartedly embraced the art of syabit weaving.

The P*s or P*s Syabit is a vibrant and multicolored woven cloth that belongs to the Tausug community. Traditionally, Tausug men wear it as a headdress or as an accessory to their clothing. The P*s Syabit is carefully folded and draped over the left shoulder, complementing the 'lapi' or upper garments and the 'sawal' or loose trousers.

This exquisite piece of fabric not only serves as a fashion statement but also symbolizes the esteemed position of the weavers in society. Darhata Sawabi's unwavering commitment to the art of P*s Syabit weaving is evident in her precise strokes, keen color sensitivity, and relentless pursuit of artistic excellence.
