JFINEX‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Industry Tour in Merzci

To gain a firsthand idea of the most iconic homegrown brand of Negros, students from the College of Business Management and Accountancy Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Financial Management (CBMA—BSBA FM) boarded an industry tour at Merzci, Vista Alegre, on November 14.

The tour was led by the JFINEX advisers Dr. Julie Ann M. Gallego, Ms. Gladys D. Sayson, LPT, MBA, and faculty members Dr. Yasmin P. Dormido, Dr. Salvador S. Sigaya Jr., Sir Ritche C. Dujon, MBA, LPT, Ms. Edna Maricon Arca, MBA, Ms. Joy Mananap, MBA, Ms. Catherina Aledron MBA, LPT, Dr. Christine Francia, and Ms. Marivic Espanto, MBA, who ensured the success of the activity.

The students explored Merzci’s manufacturing unit, where they witnessed the production of the most favorite pasalubong—the piyaya, biscocho, and other Filipino delicacies that are made accurately, lovingly, and by time-honored tradition.

This activity allowed the students to dive deep into the past of the brand and comprehend the principles that led to its heritage.

“The boy meditating in the center represents calm resilience in the face of humanitarian emergencies, such as volcanic eruptions, pandemics, and floods, which [boost] mental health. The flames symbolize happiness, hope, and healing, while the clouds and plants represent a protective shield, highlighting the importance of mental health in weathering crises. When your mental health is stable, you become [a] light in [the] darkness.”

“The hands [emphasize] those people who [reach] you [when] you're in your mental [state] [where] you start to feel depressed, [have] anxiety [attacks], and [overthink]. Especially this month, [since] we’re experiencing consecutive earthquakes and aftershocks. Most people think [an] earthquake is nothing, but those people who were affected by this, especially mentally, may experience different types of anxiety. I made this poster to let those people know that they don't have to suffer alone, [because] finding someone you can talk to and letting your feelings out for a bit may help you and your mental health.”

“A HELPING HAND OF A FRIEND. Life might be hard for these two people but with [hands] holding each other, they still continue to walk straightforwardly. This photo relates to the theme "Access to Services - Mental Health in [Catastrophes] and Emergencies" because sometimes when storms come, reaching out is okay, especially to a friend you believe [could] help, giving [us] a peace of mind that [fixes] our mental health. It shows how a friend becomes a pillar of support, a hero and a human diary. Reminding us that when things hit us hard there's always a person, either professional or not, [who] is willing to hold our hands and [serve] as our safe place.”
