Luis Hervias National High School (LHNHS) strengthened its partnership with parents and guardians as the Homeroom Parent-Teacher Association (HPTA) Meeting, Portfolio Showcase, and Card Viewing were held on September 18, 2026, bringing families and teachers together to discuss learner development, school priorities, and academic progress.

The meeting provided an avenue for parents and teachers to address key matters concerning the school community, including school security, proper wearing of identification cards and uniforms, prescribed haircuts for male learners, Project NENW or Project Carry Out, grading and the determination and awarding of honors, attendance, Mean Percentage Score (MPS), numeracy and literacy performance, homeroom programs and activities, and preparations for card giving.

Parents were likewise encouraged to support the school's upcoming Open House, with Grade Level Leaders (GLLs) tasked to orient new teachers and facilitate parent participation in the activity.

A notable indicator of parent engagement was the 82.20% overall parental attendance for Term 1, reflecting the participation of families across all grade levels. Grade 7 recorded 88.46% attendance, followed by Grade 8 with 82.51%, Grade 9 with 80.27%, Grade 10 with 81.33%, Grade 11 with 77.45%, and Grade 12 with 83.19%.

Several sections achieved particularly high participation, with five sections recording 100% parental attendance. These were Grade 9 STE-Bandurria, Grade 7 STE-Eagle, Grade 10-Gemini, Grade 9-Harmonica, and Grade 8 STE-Philippines.

The other sections in the Term 1 top 10 for parental attendance were Grade 7-Dove (97.44%), Grade 10-Capricorn (97.30%), Grade 8-Japan (95.12%), Grade 11-Artorius (94.59%), and Grade 12-Cronus (93.55%).

The gathering also featured the Portfolio Showcase and Card Viewing, allowing parents and guardians to examine learners' academic outputs and monitor their progress. The showcase provided families with a closer view of learners' work and accomplishments while reinforcing the importance of parental involvement in the learning process.

The HPTA meeting underscored the continuing partnership between the school and families in addressing learner needs, monitoring academic performance, and supporting school programs. With 82.20% parental participation during Term 1, LHNHS continues to strengthen a school community where collaboration between teachers and families remains central to learner development.

The growing concern over teenage pregnancy took center stage at Luis Hervias National High School (LHNHS) on September 10, 2026 as teachers participated in a Gender and Development (GAD) session designed to deepen their understanding of the issue and strengthen their role in addressing it.

The session, โ€œUnderstanding and Addressing the Rising Trend in Teenage Pregnancy,โ€ was facilitated by Ernie V. Asoy, PPO IV and Officer-in-Charge of the Bacolod City Population Development Office.

Asoy led the discussion on the factors surrounding teenage pregnancy and the challenges it presents to young people, families, and the wider community.

The discussion highlighted the importance of awareness, appropriate guidance, and coordinated support in addressing adolescent concerns.

As educators who interact with learners regularly, teachers play an important role in creating an environment where young people can receive accurate information, guidance, and appropriate assistance.

The activity formed part of LHNHSโ€™s continuing professional development efforts, equipping teachers not only with classroom strategies but also with greater awareness of social issues that directly affect the learners they serve.

Luis Hervias National High School (LHNHS) continued its 2026 In-Service Training on September 10, 2026 with sessions that broadened teachersโ€™ professional competencies in student support, classroom assessment, and numeracy integration.

The day opened with โ€œRecognize, Respond, Refer: Empowering Teachers as Gatekeepers in Su***de Prevention,โ€ facilitated by Yhelynn M. Romarate, RGC, LPT.

The session emphasized the crucial role of teachers in recognizing learners who may be experiencing difficulties and determining when a student may need immediate assistance or referral to appropriate support services.

Romarate discussed key risk factors and warning signs that teachers should be able to recognize, as well as appropriate steps to take when confronted with a learner who may be at risk. The discussion reinforced the importance of responding appropriately and connecting learners with the proper sources of help.

The training then returned to classroom assessment as Mr. Herbert D. Tecson, Principal III, continued his discussion on โ€œDeveloping Quality Classroom Assessment Rubrics.โ€

Building on the previous session, teachers participated in group-based activities and submitted their outputs for evaluation. Departmental activities were likewise reviewed through an interdepartmental checking process, allowing teachers from one department to examine the work of another and provide feedback.

The activity strengthened the collaborative nature of the training while giving teachers an opportunity to refine assessment tools through peer review and shared professional judgment.

The final session focused on โ€œNumeracy Integration in the Lesson,โ€ facilitated by Mary Belle V. Alibuga, Master Teacher I โ€“ Mathematics.

Rather than limiting numeracy to mathematics classrooms, the session encouraged teachers to identify opportunities to incorporate numeracy skills into their respective learning areas. Participants formulated classroom activities designed to integrate numeracy into their lessons, translating the discussion into practical strategies that can be applied across subjects.

The final day of the INSET was graced by the presence of Dr. Annie Esteron, Public Schools District Supervisor of Cluster II, who joined the school community as the training concluded.

Across the sessions, the INSET underscored a broader role for teachers: to recognize learnersโ€™ needs, respond with appropriate support, assess learning with fairness and consistency, and create opportunities for students to develop essential skills across disciplines.

Luis Hervias National High School (LHNHS) received a donation of multivitamins from the Negros Island Region I TFOE-PEI and its partner Eagles clubs, providing additional health support for the school community.

The donation was led by Mark Anthony B. Efren, Governor of Negros Island Region I TFOE-PEI, and Mary Ann C. Efren, President of the Bacolod CL Lady Eagles Club, who is also an alumna of LHNHS, Batch 2001.

The initiative was sponsored by the Negros Island Region I, Bacolod CL Lady Eagles Club, and Silay Eagles Club, bringing together civic organizations in support of the health and well-being of learners.

The donated multivitamins were received by Ms. Eleanor Dolloso, HT IV of the MAPEH Department and Sports Coordinator, together with teacher-coaches Ms. Kimverly Zapata, Mr. Uzziel Garcia, and Ms. Jackylyn Montes.

More than a provision of vitamins, the donation reflects a continuing partnership between the school and community organizations in supporting learner welfare. The involvement of an LHNHS alumna further highlights how former students can extend their connection to their alma mater beyond graduation by contributing to the needs of the next generation.

These messages set the tone as Luis Hervias National High School (LHNHS) opened its 2026 In-Service Training (INSET) on September 9, bringing teachers together for a day of professional learning centered on classroom assessment and literacy integration.

The morning session, โ€œDeveloping Quality Classroom Assessment Rubrics,โ€ led by Mr. Herbert D. Tecson, Principal III, challenged teachers to look beyond simply putting scores on paper and examine how those scores are produced.

Tecson underscored objectivity as an essential principle in classroom assessment, stressing that teachers must be equipped to develop and use rubrics that provide clear, appropriate, and consistent standards for evaluating learner performance.

The lesson moved from discussion to application as teachers worked in groups to scrutinize a sample rubric, identify weaknesses, and make necessary corrections. Through the activity, participants were able to test assessment principles against an actual classroom tool rather than leave them as theoretical notes destined for a forgotten notebook.

Beyond the mechanics of rubric construction, Tecson also reminded teachers of the value of doing meaningful work even without recognition or an audience, emphasizing that professional commitment is measured not only by who notices the work, but by whether it remains worth doing.

The afternoon session widened the lens from assessment to a challenge that cuts across classrooms: literacy.

Facilitated by Ms. Grace B. Zamora, Master Teacher II, the session โ€œLiteracy Integration in the Lessonโ€ emphasized that literacy development cannot rest solely on the shoulders of language teachers.

Learners encounter reading, writing, comprehension, interpretation, and communication demands in virtually every subject. For Zamora, this makes literacy a shared responsibility across learning areas, particularly as schools continue to confront existing literacy difficulties among learners.

Teachers confronted these realities through a situation analysis, examining existing literacy problems and identifying classroom situations where learners may struggle. The activity prompted participants to move beyond identifying the problem and consider how literacy strategies can be woven into their own lessons.

Day 1 of the LHNHS INSET placed one principle at the center of both sessions: teachers shape how learners are measured and, ultimately, how they learn.
