On the ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿญ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿต๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฎ, the entire Philippines was placed under ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐‹๐š๐ฐ through Proclamation No. 1081, citing the growing threat of civil unrest, rebellion, and insurgency as its justification.

It was believed to be a necessary means of protection against the critical threats facing the countryโ€”but what was deemed an act of security ultimately did otherwise to the people. Democracy stood suspended, rights were stripped away, and the economy was stifled. These experiences serve not only as history, but as a memorialization of those who endured the darkness and an acknowledgement of the lives lost, silenced, and scarred.

Yet despite all of these, questions still remain:

The program featured a discussion by ๐— ๐˜€. ๐—ฉ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ ๐—๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ต ๐——๐—ฒ ๐—”๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜€ of the Faculty of Political Science Department, who presented lived experiences gathered from participants in her research on Martial Law. She emphasized the importance of remembering experiences that may not be fully captured in official historical records.

The program also featured a testimony from ๐— ๐˜€. ๐—๐˜‚๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ผ๐—ท๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐—ผ of Balayan, who shared her personal experience during Martial Law.

Through the commemoration, the organizers highlighted the importance of remembering lived experiences, recognizing resilience, and continuing conversations on accountability, justice, and historical memory.
