BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN MARINE ENGINEERING

Program Description:
Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering is a higher education degree program that deals with the study of marine propulsion system, its operation and maintenance, as well controlling the operation of the ship and care for persons on board at the operational level of marine engineering. Produce graduates that are:
 Competent to carry out safely the watch keeping , duties of an officer-in-charge of engineering watch in manned engine room or designated duty officer in a periodically unmanned engine room, both at sea and in port.
 Fully conversant with the basic principles to be observed in keeping an engineering watch as per STCW Regulation VIII/2 and Chapter VIII of the STCW Code; and
 Qualified to pursue a professional career or advanced studies in any maritime field of specialization. Provide and equip students with knowledge, understanding, proficiencies, skills, competencies, attitudes and values to qualify them for:
 Professional licensure examination; and
 Assessment and certification as officer in charge (OIC) of an engineering watch in manned engine room or designated duty engineer officer in a periodically unmanned engine room on seagoing ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 KW propulsion power or more.

Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation is higher education degree program that deals with the study of navigation, cargo handling and stowage, controlling the safe operation and care for persons on board the ship at the operational level. Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The BSMT Program aims to:
A. Produce graduates that are:
 Competent to carry out safely the task , duties and responsibilities of an officer in charge (OIC) of a navigational watch on seagoing ship s of 500 gross tonnage or more, both at sea and in port;
 Fully concersant with the basic principles in keeping navigational watch as per STCW Regulation VIII/2 and Chapter VII of the STCW Code; and
 Qualified to pursue a professional career or advanced studies in a maritime field of specialization. Provide and equip students with knowledge, understanding, proficiencies, skills, competencies, attitudes and values to qualify them for:
 Professional licensure examination; and
 Assessment and certification as officer in charge (OIC) of a navigational watch on seagoing ships of 500 gross tonnage or more

‎From ten cadets who stepped into the final screening carrying their aspirations, only three emerged to take the helm as the top contenders for the 2026 Unit Model Cadet title.
‎
‎John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation Bacolod (JBLCFB) named Mdpn. Owin G. Ayco, Mdpn. Kyrle Laquinon, and Mdpn. Dave Manilo J. Iglesia as its Top 3 Model Cadets on September 22, after ten finalists competed in the culminating screening of the Unit Model Cadet selection.

‎Judges representing the youth, JBLCFB alumni, government, religious, and education sectors evaluated the finalists based on self-introduction (20%), intelligence (50%) through conceptual and situational questions, and talent presentation (25%), while the remaining 5% came from the pre-judged Holistic Leadership Bidbook evaluated by the Model Cadet Committee, highlighting the candidates’ achievements in excellence, leadership, and community involvement.

‎The screening also featured a production number by the Top 10 finalists and the Model Cadet Circle, followed by a vignette on the life of a model cadet presented by MC Earl Luiz B. Militar, System Model Cadet 2025 Leadership Awardee, and MC John Daryl G. Gabayeron, System Model Cadet 2024 Leadership Awardee, highlighting the responsibilities and values attached to the title.

‎Several finalists also received special distinctions, with Mdpn. Aaron Austin Quadra earning Best in Advocacy Video, Mdpn. John Andrei B. Estoesta receiving the Holistic Leadership Award, Mdpn. Raphael Alfred G. Barcellano being named Best in Talent, and Mdpn. Dave Manilo J. Iglesia receiving Best in Interview.

‎Throughout the selection, the ten finalists were challenged to demonstrate the institution’s values of discipline, leadership, excellence, integrity, perseverance, and service, with the final three emerging from a field that tested both their individual capabilities and character.
‎
‎Ayco, Laquinon, and Iglesia will now represent JBLCFB in the System Model Cadet 2027, where they will compete alongside representatives from JBLFMU -Arevalo and JBLFMU-Molo for the System Model Cadet 2027 title, carrying JBLCF-Bacolod’s name to the next stage of the competition.

The Symbolic Wearing of Uniform and Imposition of School Paraphernalia marks a meaningful milestone as our students officially embrace the identity they carry as part of the institution. Each patch, insignia, and piece of the uniform represents the pride of the school, the commitment to excellence, and the responsibility to uphold the legacy of a true Lacsonian.
