Yesterday, May 13, the Senior High School Student Government Council held the 8𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 (𝘚𝘖𝘚𝘎𝘈), and 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆, where the previous academic year's council officers passed on the 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 to the newly elected leaders. 🗝️🎖️

We wish this coming academic year's SHSGC Officers 𝑒𝑥𝑐𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒, and the former officers 𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑙𝑢𝑐𝑘 with their future endeavours! 🩵✨

As we celebrate Mother’s Day today, May 10, 2026, let us acknowledge the women who help us through our ups and downs—the women who are always there for us wherever and whenever we may need them. Let us all express our gratitude to the “𝗜𝗹𝗮𝘄 𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻”—our mothers.

As Filipinos, and as people, we should always keep in mind that our mothers get tired too. We may often complain or disagree with their decisions, but let us remember that they do those things because they care. They do them because they want us to become better people, and most of all, because they are concerned for our future.

Together, on this glorious day, let us be grateful and joyful as we give our appreciation to the most influential women in our lives—𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔. 💝

Today, we commemorate 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗗𝗮𝘆; an international occasion where we amplify the voices of those rendered as “menaces” to our society’s wellbeing by those threatened by truth—the voices of journalists who fought, who are fighting, and who we’ve lost. Today is a tribute to journalists who sacrificed their lives while fulfilling their obligations—a reminder to protect the media from unjust intervention.

There are those of us that see struggle and pain, and hope for a brighter future—and there are those of us that see the same suffering, and actually do something. In 2023-2024 alone, the Philippines had 206 recorded incidents of campus press freedom violations; among them were 17 cases of red-tagging, and 58 cases of censorship. From red-tagging, to uncalled-for sedition and terrorism financing charges, journalists out on the field truly deserve so much better.

Journalists risk their lives for the voiceless—they're with the people, for the people. They are not enemies. Their deaths should be catalysts for our society to finally wake up, get up, and act; instead, they become the reasons for regression—and it’s devastatingly disappointing. Journalism at its core isn’t about dying with honor for the nation—it’s about collective effort trying to change the system for the better. The stigma. The ignorance. The irony of it all is how those who seek justice, are condemned to injustice.

As we yearn for a greater nation—a greater Pilipinas, let us leave hypocrisy behind. As Filipinos, we deserve more—let us not choose ignorance over progress and justice. Neutrality no longer stands as an option that will help us transcend whatever slum we’ve found ourselves in.

Because 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧?

Every 𝑴𝒂𝒚 1st, Filipinos celebrate a day of honor for the working people of the Philippines. This regular holiday is called 𝐿𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑟 𝐷𝑎𝑦, or 𝐴𝑟𝑎𝑤 𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑔𝑎 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑔𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑤𝑎 as it is known locally.

One hundred twenty-three years ago, on May 1, 1903, the first Labor Day in the Philippines was marked. This happened when the 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑜́𝑛 𝑂𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑟𝑎 𝐷𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑐𝑟𝑎́𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎 𝑑𝑒 𝐹𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑠 (UODF) marched to Malacañang to demand better labor conditions and Philippine independence.

Things to expect during Labor Day:
●𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) organizes numerous job fairs nationwide.
●𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 – Labor groups often demand higher wages, lower prices, and better working conditions during Labor Day.

As Filipinos, we should take care of one another. By helping each other, we can make life in the Philippines better, reduce the need for 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑠 𝐹𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑜 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑒𝑟𝑠 (OFWs), and, most importantly, increase the overall value of our country.

Amid cheers and tears, 253 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐋𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 - 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 27, 2026, marking the end of an era shaped by challenges and triumphs. This year’s ceremony at the Quadrangle was 𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡, 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐂𝐂𝐁 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞.

Proudly wearing their togas, the graduates from different strands proudly received their diplomas, symbolizing the hard work, sleepless nights, and perseverance behind their success. The graduates were commended for staying strong through challenges and they were reminded to carry kindness, responsibility, and integrity wherever they go.

Honoring their hardworks and dedication we take this moment to look back and recognize the sacrifices these respective students have made throughout their journey in La Consolacion College Bacolod. Giving them their moment to appreciate their perseverance in order to receive these medals and diplomas today.

For this year’s guest speaker, they are a proud alumni of La Consolacion College - Bacolod and a former 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐒𝐒) student during their Senior High School years. Throughout the speech, they taught us the importance of our participation in creating a world we want to live in and reminded us to imagine a future bigger than what seems possible.
