FROM DREAMS TO REALITY, CAPTAIN MAKILAN’S HOPEFUL VISION.

Life has its timing but for Captain Makilan, the journey starts the moment you decide to ride the waves. From the beginning of the maritime journey as a Deck Cadet at Magsaysay Shipping, valuable knowledge and practical skills in navigation, safety procedures, and ship operations were developed through hands-on training at sea. He is a Magsaysay Passer Cadetship Program known as Officers Candidate Course Batch 35, Class Masigalig. This foundation paved the way for promotion to Third Officer, where greater responsibilities in watchkeeping, cargo operations, and maintaining onboard safety standards were entrusted.
Subsequently, advancement to Second Officer further enhanced expertise in voyage planning, navigation management, and compliance with international maritime regulations. Through dedication and leadership, the role of Chief Officer was eventually attained, involving the supervision of deck operations, cargo handling, and crew management while ensuring the vessel’s overall efficiency and safety.
Finally, achieving the rank of Master Mariner at Orophil Shipping marked the culmination of years of experience, discipline, and professional growth. As the highest-ranking officer onboard, the position carries the responsibility of overseeing the entire vessel, ensuring safe navigation, operational excellence, and the welfare of both crew and cargo.

Maneuvering the tides through culinary excellence, John Paul anchored his journey through discipline and courage.

He graduated Cum Laude, a shining testament to his discipline and brilliance—like a jewel polished through years of dedication. This academic honor became the cornerstone of a career built on excellence. Soon after, he ventured abroad as a J1 Culinary Intern at the Ga***rd Opryland Resort and Convention Centre, USA, stepping into the grand stage of international hospitality. In that bustling arena, he sharpened his craft, blending flavors and cultures with the finesse of an artist painting on a global canvas.
Returning home, he took on the role of Office Staff at VMA Global College and Training Centre Inc., where his adaptability shone. Like a steady hand guiding the gears of an institution, he supported operations and strengthened the rhythm of academic life.
Today, he sails across oceans as a Culinary Operation Commis‑2 at Royal Caribbean International Cruise. In this floating city, he thrives in a fast‑paced, multicultural environment, orchestrating dishes that delight travelers worldwide—each plate a symphony of precision and creativity.

He believes, “Failure is not the end it’s part of the process. Behind every success, there is always failure. Most importantly, rise up, keep going, and never give up Because the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
