January is Zero Waste Month! 🌿♻️
This January, the Philippine Misereor Partnership, Inc. is celebrating the Zero Waste Month! It is a time for all of us to rethink our trash and find ways to live more simply for the sake of our planet.
This celebration is built into our legal system to ensure we protect our common home. Under Presidential Proclamation No. 760, January was officially declared Zero Waste Month to promote environmental awareness and the importance of waste segregation, working alongside of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
How can we help in achieving our goal of a zero waste life? This month is a reminder to practice simple habits that make a big impact. A zero waste life starts with proper segregation by separating various waste materials such as food scraps (Biodegradable) from bottles and paper (Recyclable) and keeping them away from trash that cannot be reused (Residual). Another practice that we can do is refusing single-use plastics when we shop, reducing "shopaholic" practices, and repairing items instead of replacing them.
This is a huge part of respecting the Rights of Nature by giving our environment the chance to stay healthy and thrive. Let’s start today by segregating, reusing, repairing, and refusing to use unsustainable materials that make a big difference for our mother earth! 🌏✨
