Teacher Ruby of CRAIN Bacolod had the opportunity to meet the wonderful parents of the Grade 2 students of Andres Bonifacio Elementary School 1 last February 23, 2026.
As part of CRAIN Bacolod’s commitment to supporting young learners, Teacher Ruby—in partnership with the University of St. La Salle—worked with 4th Year Communication Arts student Reynalie Princess S. Esquerida, who conducted a session through her advocacy project “Booklad.” The talk, “Helping Grade 2 Children Love Reading at Home: Supporting Filipino Families in a Digital Age,” focused on practical ways families can nurture strong reading habits despite the challenges of gadgets, busy schedules, and daily routines.
Grateful for the engaged parents who are committed to raising young readers at home. When families and schools work hand in hand, children truly thrive.

Building the bridge from sounds to sentences! 📝✨
This is 𝑺𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑫𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, a vital step in helping students move from individual letter sounds to confident writing. We practiced:
Phoneme-Grapheme Mapping: Connecting sounds to letters.
Heart Words: Mastering tricky words like "the" and "to."
Concepts of Print: Nailing those capital letters and periods!
Our student successfully wrote: "Beth will go to the pen to feed the pets." Great progress in turning phonics into real-world communication!

Word mapping activities help learners break words down into individual sounds, strengthening phonemic awareness and decoding skills. By clearly connecting sounds to letters, students build a solid foundation for reading, spelling, and confidence with new words. Small steps that make a big difference! ✨

✨ Behind the Scenes: Preparing for a Reading Intervention Lesson at CRAIN Bacolod!
Every lesson we teach is carefully crafted to help learners grow as readers. Today’s focus? The tricky phonogram “que,” which makes the /k/ sound.
But our work goes beyond just decoding words. We also:
📖Build vocabulary with kid-friendly definitions
👀Use images to help learners understand each word
✍️Practice spelling and using words in sentences
Our lessons are designed so that word reading, spelling, and vocabulary development happen together—because strong literacy skills need all three!
Check out some of the slides we prepared for today’s lesson. Swipe to see how we map out words, support comprehension, and make learning fun and meaningful for our students.
