๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐. With dedicated spirits for the truth, campus journalists and their advisors from various schools across Negros Occidental gathered at the gymnasium of the University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos for day one of the 2nd Ka-Aksyon: Media Summit 2026, September 16.
The program officially started with the welcoming remarks delivered by Mr. Harry S. Magluyan, Integrated School Principal.
โSeek knowledge, but let your knowledge be guided by love. Let your pursuit of truth be accompanied by compassion. Let your freedom be tampered by responsibility. And let your talent in communication become a way of serving others,โ Mr. Magluyan stated in his speech.
Guest speaker Hon. Greg Gasataya, Mayor of Bacolod City, then shared his journey as a journalist in his inspirational message, emphasizing the importance of credibility and education as student journalists.
Subsequently, to ensure online safety and security, Police Major Charie H. Villamor, Assistant Chief of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit, gave his lecture about cybercrime awareness and domestic violence.
The second journalism talk was then delivered by the resource speaker, Mr. Serafin I. Plotria Jr., focusing on the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Philippine media.
After the meaningful discourses, the young journalists proceeded to their respective breakout sessions, with the news writing led by Mr. Erwin P. Nicavera, feature writing by Ms. Easter Anne Doza, and broadcasting workshop by Ka-Aksyon Boy Duran.
The first day of the Media Summit concluded with an enthusiastic tour of the university campus led by the Senior High School Student Affairs Organization (SHSSAO).
The momentous occasion exemplified the Augustinian values of Community and Truth, while also demonstrating Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by bringing young journalists together to uphold the integrity of journalism today.
