From small kitchens and shared tables, futures can begin to take shape. ๐ฝ๏ธ๐
Inside the LifeSkills Kitchen Laboratory, thirteen community participants gathered for โPaglinang: Skills Building Workshop,โ an initiative led by CAS Lasallian Champion Karyle Dela Peรฑa in partnership with the USLS Center for LifeSkills.
The participants came from different sectors of the community. The Out-of-School Youth (OSY), Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) members, Alternative Learning System (ALS), and Tribu Aning โ Youth for Development (TAYFD). Each carrying their own stories, but sharing the same openness to growth.
With gratitude, Karyle welcomed everyone into the space. The workshop, she shared, was meant to offer more than just a short afternoon activity. It was a chance to learn practical skills and discover small beginnings for future livelihood.
Soon the kitchen came alive.
Guided by Ms. Julie Cortez and the LifeSkills Team, participants were grouped together to prepare three familiar Filipino food products: Pork Siomai, Embutido, and Atsara. Recipes became conversations.
Instructions became collaboration.
And simple ingredients slowly transformed into something meaningful.
For one hour and twenty-five minutes, the workshop unfolded both as a lesson in food preparation and as a space where confidence can begin to grow.
The afternoon closed with a simple salo-salo, where participants shared merienda. In that moment, the workshopโs purpose felt clear.
Because sometimes empowerment begins in the most practical waysโlearning a skill, gaining an idea, and realizing that new possibilities are within reach.
