The Political Science Program faculty of the University of St. La Salle participated in the 2026 International Conference of the Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) held at Silliman University, Dumaguete City, gathering scholars, practitioners, and political science educators in a meaningful academic exchange on contemporary political issues.

With the theme “Democracy: Navigating the Tensions of Unity and Division,” the conference explored the complex intersections of political cohesion, dissent, pluralism, and democratic governance in the Philippines, Southeast Asia, and the wider global context. The gathering served as a venue for critical reflection on how unity and division shape state formation, national identity, political representation, and social transformation.

Representing the Political Science Program, Atty. Gaby Lacson presented a paper entitled “Constitutional Reform and Asymmetric Decentralization: Spain and the Philippines,” contributing to the conference’s broader discourse on governance, constitutional design, and political restructuring. His presentation highlighted comparative perspectives that deepen understanding of decentralization and reform in both national and international settings.

He was joined by Mr. Ryan Villasis, Ms. Veronica Jireh De Asis, Ms. Syvel Jay Silvestre-Tortosa, and Mr. Elias Patriarca Jr., who likewise attended the conference and took part in this significant academic engagement.

The participation of the Political Science Program faculty reflects a continuing commitment to scholarly excellence, meaningful collaboration, and active engagement in discourses that enrich both the discipline and the broader political landscape.

The event commenced with the roll call of the Council of Presidents, followed by the formal reading of Council of Presidents Resolution No. 1 and its subsequent confirmation. Thereafter, the SSC–PSS introduced their association to the Federation, highlighting their mission, initiatives, and commitment to collaborative engagement. The program concluded with a closing message delivered by Mr. Ryan Villasis, USLS-PSS Moderator, emphasizing unity, shared purpose, and the continued strengthening of ties within the federation.

In the 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, held on April 23, 2026 via google meet, the Council approved 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏 granting the 𝐒𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 with 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩. This mechanism is the first step towards full membership of the SSC to the Federation. The provisional membership allows both parties to smoothly adapt with each other.

The NIR-FPSS welcomes the Siquijor State College into its growing network through a successful online accession, marking a meaningful step toward strengthened regional collaboration, academic synergy, and shared commitment to excellence in public service and education. This milestone highlights the power of digital connectivity in bridging distances, as Siquijor State College joins hands with partner institutions in advancing innovation, inclusive development, and sustainable progress across the region.

Bacolod City, April 18 — 2nd year Political Science students successfully conducted their Christian Service Learning Program (CSLP) Culminating Activity at Santuario de La Salle, in partnership with Brgy. Nayon, San Enrique and the Nayon Vendors and Fisherfolk Association (NAVEFA).

The event marked the final phase of the students’ community engagement, where different subgroups presented their findings and proposed innovations. These included the Organization and Development, Gender and Development, and Environmental and Health clusters, each addressing specific community needs identified during the program.

The activity also featured intermission numbers performed by both the students and members of 𝙉𝘼𝙑𝙀𝙁𝘼, emphasizing the strong collaboration between the academic institution and its partner communities.

The culminating activity also provided a venue for students to apply their academic learnings in practical community settings, further strengthening values of service, social responsibility, and active community involvement.
