SBE NEWS | Grade 10 Students Hold Final Defense for Science Investigatory Project
Grade 10 students commenced their final defense for the Science Investigatory Project (SIP) today at 7:30 AM at the SBE Library. The activity serves as the culminating requirement of their research work, aiming to enhance students’ scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through practical investigation.
The defense is led by their advisers, Ms. Ma. Maecy Dela Cruz and Ms. Glennis Marie Señeres. Serving as panelists are Ms. Lency Rosana, Ms. Rialyn Baja, and Mr. Gem Anthony Saul, who are evaluating the students’ research content, methodology, and presentation.
The SIP defense marks a significant milestone for the Grade 10 students, as it not only highlights their academic growth but also prepares them for more advanced research work in the future.

SBE NEWS | STIWNU Holds Fire Drill
STI West Negros University conducted a fire drill this morning at 8:00 a.m. on April 16, 2026, to promote campus safety and preparedness.
Students, faculty, and staff evacuated their buildings and assembled at the Student Activity Center (SAC), practicing proper emergency procedures. The drill aims to prepare the university community to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.

A sudden earthquake was occured, prompting students, teachers, and staff of STI West Negros University (STIWNU) to move to the University Field for safety, while classes for SBE students are suspended today, April 6.

BALITANG SBE | Dulang Pangkasaysayan, Tampok ang Katipunan
Itinanghal ang sigla ng kasaysayan sa ginanap na pagtatanghal ng dulang Bonifacio: “Ang Supremo”, na hango sa buhay at kabayanihan ni Andres Bonifacio at sa diwa ng pagiging makabayan, sa STIWNU noong umaga ng Marso 27, 2026.
Layunin nitong mapalalim ang kaalaman ng kabataan tungkol sa kasaysayan. Sa pamamagitan ng pagganap sa entablado, naipakita ang mahahalagang pangyayari sa buhay ni Bonifacio. Humanga ang mga manonood sa emosyonal na pagganap ng mga aktor at sa makatotohanang mga eksena na tila nagbalik sa kasaysayan.
Patuloy na inaasahan ang mas marami pang pagtatanghal ng ganitong uri upang mapanatiling buhay ang diwa ng kabayanihan sa makabagong henerasyon.

SBE NEWS — Grade 5 Student Desquitado Secures Silver and Bronze in NIRAAM Chess
Aezen V. Desquitado, a Grade 5 Aqua student from STI West Negros University, earned medals in the Elementary Girls Chess category during the Negros Island Region Athletic Association Meet (NIRAAM) 2026 held from March 1–6, 2026 at the Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center.
Desquitado secured a Silver Medal in the Team Standard Event and a Bronze Medal in the Team Blitz Event, contributing to her team’s success in the regional competition.
The young athlete was guided by Coach Jamaica A. Valderama, with Sheena Grace Tigle serving as chaperone. Desquitado’s performance highlights her dedication and skill in chess, bringing pride to her school and community.

SBE NEWS | Secondary Girls Chess Team Clinches Triple Gold at NIRAAM 2026
The Secondary Girls Chess Team delivered an outstanding performance at the Negros Island Region Athletic Association Meet (NIRAAM) 2026, emerging as Team Champion in three major events during the competition held from March 1–6, 2026, at the Jose C. Locsin Cultural and Civic Center.
Demonstrating exceptional strategy and teamwork, the team secured three championship titles in the chess competition:
🏆 Blitz Event – Team Champion
🏆 Standard Event – Team Champion
🏆 Rapid Event – Team Champion
The victorious team was composed of talented young athletes from different schools. Representing STI West Negros University were Ellaine Summer Abanco (Grade 9 – Freesia) and Channell Joy Valencia (Grade 7 – Ruby), while Kaiya Cassidy (Grade 8 – Newton) represented Mansilingan Agro-Industrial High School.
Guiding the team to victory was Coach Leo Romitman, with Janine Pialan-Parreño serving as chaperone and Ernie D. Abanco as trainer. Their leadership and dedication played a vital role in the team’s preparation and success.

SBE Updates | STIWNU Conducts Earthquake Drill to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness
Earlier today, March 12, 2026, students from the School of Basic Education (SBE) of STIWNU participated in an earthquake drill as part of the institution’s safety and disaster preparedness efforts. This activity helps ensure that in times of emergencies, students know what to do with less panic and confusion.
During the drill, students practiced the standard “Drop, Cover, and Hold” procedure and were guided through an orderly evacuation to the designated safe areas. Faculty members and school personnel also assisted in supervising the activity to ensure that all safety protocols were properly followed.
The drill was successfully carried out, with students participating actively and following the instructions given.
Safety begins with preparedness. 🚨

HAPPENING NOW | 3rd NIR PRISAA Regional Games Opens at STI West Negros University
The 3rd NIR PRISAA Regional Games officially opens today, March 10, 2026, at the STI West Negros University Gymnasium. STiers join student-athletes from different schools across the Negros Island Region, together with their administrators, to celebrate sportsmanship, unity, and excellence.
The gymnasium is filled with excitement as participants showcase their talents, skills, and passion in various sports and performances. This event gives every school the opportunity to shine through their athletes and represent their institutions with pride.
Let us support and cheer for all the participants as they give their best and strive to reach their goals beyond their limits.

SBE NEWS | Galing ng STIWNU young chess players, kinilala sa NOPSSCEA 45
Kinilala bilang kampeon ang mga batang manlalaro ng chess mula sa STI West Negros University sa 10-Under Boys & Girls category sa NOPSSCEA 45 matapos nilang ipakita ang kanilang husay sa ginanap na paligsahan kamakailan.
Ipinakita ng mga batang manlalaro ang kanilang galing sa bawat laban, dahilan upang maiuwi nila ang kampeonato. Dahil sa kanilang sipag at determinasyon, naging proud ang STIWNU at mga sumusuporta sa kanila.
Malaki rin ang naging papel ng kanilang coach na si Leo Romitman sa patuloy na paggabay at suporta sa mga batang manlalaro. Umaasa ang lahat na mas marami pang tagumpay ang makakamit ng mga batang kampeon sa mga susunod na kompetisyon.
