NOHSians came together for a meaningful and empowering Mental Health Symposium with the theme
Spearheaded by Barkada Kontra Droga (BaKod) in collaboration with our Peer Facilitators and the Guidance Department, the event created a safe space for students to reflect, recharge, and rise above stress.
The highlight of the day was an eye-opening talk by Sir Bryan Lois Villanueva, a Registered Psychometrician and mental health advocate. He shared powerful insights about the roots of depression and anxiety, the importance of support systems, and the three pillars of mental well-being: good sleep, a healthy diet, and regular physical activity.
Sir Villanueva reminded everyone that itโs okay not to be okay, and that healing starts with honest conversations and self-care. With the guidance of RA 11036, we were reminded that mental health is a right, not a privilege.
Huge thanks to everyone who made this event possible. As we move forward, may we continue to break the stigma, build supportive relationships, and remind ourselves and others that we are resilient, capable, and worthy of peace.

Negros Occidental High School's Guidance Department, in partnership with Barkada Kontra Droga (BaKoD) and Peer Facilitators, officially launched the Career Guidance and Mental Health Awareness Month with the national theme, "Thriving Forward: Empowering Purposeful Careers, Grow with Intention. Thrive with Purpose.โ This theme underscores the importance of aligning career goals with personal well-being, encouraging students to pursue not only success but also a life of balance, meaning, and mental wellness.
Through engaging performances and purposeful activities, students are inspired to reflect deeply on their individual paths and make intentional choices for their future. The celebration serves as a reminder that thriving means more than achievement โ it means growing with clarity, choosing with purpose, and nurturing oneโs mental health every step of the way.
Grow with Intention. Thrive with Purpose.

This Indigenous Peoples Month, we honor the rich heritage, vibrant traditions, and enduring wisdom of Indigenous communities. Their deep connection to the land, culture, and spirit continues to shape our nationโs identity and remind us of the beauty in diversity and unity.
Let this month be a time of learning, respect, and solidarity. May we listen to their stories, recognize their struggles, and stand with them in preserving their rights, culture, and ancestral lands โ so that the voices of our Indigenous brothers and sisters continue to be heard and celebrated for generations to come. โจ

Learning what we areโobserving how our peers engaged in their first ever capacity building, led by the esteemed Head of Guidance Office, Ma'am Saban, alongside the club's dedicated advisor, Ma'am Isaganโit's a moment of profound growth and discovery. Peer facilitators, trained to guide peers through discussions and learning, play a vital role here, acting as bridges to foster understanding. ๐โจ
โ
โHowever, inequalities can arise. Some facilitators may receive more comprehensive training, creating disparities in managing conversations. Social dynamics and biases can also surface, where certain voices are favored, skewing representation. This event underscores the importance of mentorship and peer support while highlighting the need for equitable training and awareness. ๐ช๐ป๐
โ
โThe guidance and wisdom imparted by Ma'am Saban and Ma'am Isagan have laid a strong foundation addressing inequalities requires a multi-faceted approach, ensuring equitable access to training and fostering self-awareness to mitigate biases. This capacity building event has not only equipped us with new skills but also strengthened bonds, creating a sense of unity and purpose. ๐๐ป๐ซ
โ
โAs we move forward, we carry the lessons learned and connections made, guided by growth, collaboration, and service. By acknowledging and dismantling barriers, we create a more inclusive peer facilitation environment, applying our capabilities to contribute meaningfully to our community. ๐๐ซ
