Love in Action: USLS NSTP Students Turn Valentine's Day into a Clean-Up Drive
On February 14,2026 as the world celebrated Valentine's Day, the National Service Training Program (NSTP), led by Head Cluster Coordinator Mr. Dexter Ian Tabujara, once again united for a meaningful case. Instead of spending the day with flowers and chocolates, NSTP Students from University of St. La Salle- Bacolod dedicated their hearts and hands to a clean-up drive in Barangay Pahanocoy.
Armed with their cleaning materials and a shared sense of purpose, the students were divided into sections and groups, each assigned to designated areas within the barangay. Guided by their NSTP instructors , they immediately set out to collect solid waste, carefully segregating plastics and glass materials. All collected waste was turn over to the barangay for proper disposal.
On a day traditionally marked by romantic gestures, the student's proved that love extends far beyond personal relationship. They demonstrated that love can also be expressed through service to the community, care for the environment, and responsibility toward one's country. Valentine's Day, they showed, is not only about giving roses and chocolates-it can also mean showing compassion for Mother Earth.
Their unity was likened to a broom made of thin "sticks" who, when united, created meaningful change. Through teamwork and cooperation, they reduced waste and contributed to a cleaner environment.
Through the clean-up drive was conducted in selected areas, its impact resonated throughout the community. Beyond reducing garbage, the activity strengthened camaraderie and reinforced the value of collective action. As the saying goes, "The small things are the ones that matter." Their simple act of service became a powerful reminder that even small efforts can create lasting results.
This Valentine's Day, the students reminded everyone that love for the environment should not be shown only once a year. True love-whether for people, animals, or nature-must be expressed every day. In choosing service over celebration, they proved that love in Action leaves a far more lasting mark than any bouquets ever could.
