What a journey it has been for the Access students and teachers in Bacnotan! The theme revolved around how the teachers, students and entire community pushed through the pandemic in making this program happen from 2021 to 2022. At the Closing Ceremony yesterday, we were all amazed at how the students have grown so much in confidence and English-speaking skills. Congratulations everyone!

What a fun day it has been for the Access students of Bacnotan, La Union. As part of their Intensive Session, they got to visit the Don Mariano Memorial State University today. They saw the silk fabric factory, the weaving areas, the speech laboratory and so many other more!

Better late than never. We were finally able to induct the 75 students of the US Embassy's English Access Microscholarship Program in Bacnotan, La Union. It was a pleasure for all of us to meet Dr. Carleen Velez, the US Department of State's Regional English Language Officer. She was truly impressed by the growth of our students in the English language since we started our sessions last year. The students delivered speeches eloquently which brought tears to our eyes. đź’—

Thank you for the beautiful program Mayor Francisco Fontanilla and Vice Mayor Divine Fontanilla.

What a great morning it was for the Access implementers of the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia! Prof. Andy Halvorsen of the University of Oregon facilitated the discussion on the strengths and challenges of the Access Program as viewed on the ground. We also talked about how we thought their program, Communities of Practice, should look like. Our Access teachers from Upi, Maguindanao, Pete Cristobal, our Access teachers from Bacnotan, La Union, Alyssa Mae Licudan Orfano and Joyce Valmonte, and Synergeia POs, Dindo L. Guevara and Ningning C. Doble, joined the conversation.

Did you know you can use the pronoun "they" as a singular pronoun? We use "they" instead of "he" or "she" when we do not know the gender, or it is not important. 👍

With the quote below, Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie seems to suggest that people have the power to create and change their culture rather than being controlled by their culture. What do you think? How do you make culture?
