An open letter to those whose insecurities are consuming them:
I know there are times when you are looking in the mirror and you don’t like what you are seeing. You feel that you are not good-looking. There are times when you also feel like you are having a hard time making friends because you think no one will like to be your friend. You think too much about the way you speak, the way you act, and the way you think because you are afraid to be misjudged. You have low self-esteem because, of all the good qualities that a person can have, you feel as though you don’t have even one of them. You question a lot of things about yourself, especially your worth.
I’m sorry that you have to deal with that. I know that I am in no way invalidating what you feel, but maybe I can help you start to see the good things about you that you failed to see. The truth is that you always have those insecurities because you tend to overthink a lot of things. Overthinking often leads to anxiety until you don’t know how to escape anymore. Well, acknowledge your feelings, and this might be quite an odd thing to say, but don’t fight your insecurities yet. The more you try to fight them, the more they resist. Let yourself know them. What are the roots of those insecurities? Once you know the answer to that, that’s the time to slowly overcome them.
What you put into your mind will be what your whole self starts to believe. So instead of feeding your mind with doubts and negativities, start feeding it with good things. Remind yourself that you are worthy and that you are capable of becoming better. Make it a habit to remind yourself of that until one day you’ll realize that you are already believing it. Aside from telling that to yourself, of course, you must actually put it into action. Slowly, start overcoming your insecurities. If you have low self-esteem because you are not a good speaker, practice speaking; if you are not confident with your writing, singing, dancing, or other things you want to do, practice them. If you want to be better, you will do things to be better.
I hope that one day you’ll look back on this post and smile because, on that day, you already overcame what you are currently struggling with.
