SEPAK TAKRAW BASIC SKILLS TRAINING

Are you ready to learn, play, and level up your skills this summer?
Join our 10-Day Sepak Takraw Grassroots Training Program designed to introduce and develop the fundamental skills of Sepak Takraw in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

Venue: Langub Elementary School
Schedule: May 4–15, 2026 | 8AM to 11AM
Duration: 10 days (3 hours per session)

Training Fee:
Ages 7–11: ₱30.00 per session
Ages 12–17: ₱50.00 per session
A 5% discount will be granted to participants who opt to pay the full training fee in advance for the entire duration of the program. The training fee will be used to support training expenses, including free drinking water, equipment use and maintenance, facilities maintenance, and rewards for outstanding trainees.

What’s Included:
Basic skills training (footwork, kicking, control, and gameplay)
Fun and structured drills for all skill levels
Guided coaching and supervision throughout the program
Certificates will be awarded to trainees who complete at least Phase 1 of the training (6 sessions minimum).

The Science Behind The Blood Moon

It’s a pretty spectacular sight, isn’t it? That deep, rusty red color—often called a "Blood Moon"—actually happens for the same reason our sunsets look like fire.

​Why does it turn red?
​To understand the science, we have to look at two main phenomena: Refraction and Rayleigh Scattering.

​1. The Earth's Shadow (Umbra)
​During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon. While you’d expect the Moon to go pitch black because it’s in the Earth’s shadow (the umbra), it doesn’t.
​2. Rayleigh Scattering
​This is the "magic" ingredient. As sunlight passes through the Earth's atmosphere, it hits gases and particles that scatter shorter wavelengths of light (blue and violet). This is why the sky is blue during the day.
​However, longer wavelengths—like red and orange—pass through the atmosphere more easily without being scattered away.
​3. Atmospheric Refraction
​As that red light passes through our atmosphere, the air acts like a prism and bends (refracts) the light toward the Moon.
​A cool way to think about it: If you were standing on the Moon during a lunar eclipse, you would see a bright red ring around the Earth. You would essentially be seeing every sunrise and every sunset on Earth happening all at once.

​What affects the "redness"?
​The Moon isn't always the same shade of red. The color depends on what’s floating in our air at the time:
​Dust and Humidity: More particles usually mean a deeper, darker red.
​Volcanic Eruptions: If a volcano has recently erupted, the extra ash in the stratosphere can make the Moon appear a very dark, somber crimson or even chocolate brown.
​Cloud Cover: Heavy clouds around the "rim" of the Earth can block some of the light, affecting the brightness.

To wrap it all up, the "Blood Moon" is essentially a cosmic optical illusion—a reminder that even when the Earth blocks the Sun, our atmosphere finds a way to bend a little light around the corner.

​It’s a rare moment where the physics of our atmosphere and the clockwork of the solar system align to turn a cold, grey rock into a glowing lantern.

The Science Behind: The Cebu "Shear Line"

​The Hook: Why has it been raining non-stop in Cebu lately? Is it a typhoon?

​The Science: While it feels like a storm, the current heavy rain is actually caused by a Shear Line. This happens when two different "armies" of air clash: the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), which is cold and dry, meets the warm, moist air from the Pacific Ocean (Easterlies).
​Because cold air is denser, it pushes the warm air upward very quickly. As that warm air rises, it cools down and turns into massive rain clouds. It's like squeezing a wet sponge over the Visayas!

​Fast Fact: A shear line doesn't have an "eye" like a typhoon, but it can dump just as much water (50–100 mm) in a single day.
​Eco-Tip: During heavy rains, soil becomes "saturated" (like a soaked towel). This is why landslides happen in mountain areas—the ground simply can't hold any more water.

📍Prepare Emergency Kit: Food, water, flashlight, whistle
📍Avoid Low/Slide Areas: Be alert for floods and landslides

We kicked off our first YES-O meeting for 2026-2027 today! Between the "get to know you" activity and some informal brainstorming, the ideas are already blooming. It’s safe to say we’re naturally a great team. Watch out, world—we’re about to make some seriously fun moves!

Stepping into leadership is never easy, but you had the courage to say yes—yes to responsibility, yes to service, and yes to caring for something bigger than yourselves. That alone already says so much about who you are.
This journey will come with challenges, late planning, and moments of doubt, but it will also give you growth, friendships, and memories you’ll carry for a long time. Remember, leadership is not about titles; it’s about the effort you give, the example you set, and the heart you put into every action.
Let’s enjoy the journey. We’ll make mistakes, learn from them, laugh together, and support one another along the way. From this point on, know that you’re not alone—I’m here with you, ready to guide, listen, and walk with you as you grow and make YES-O a family with purpose.
