โScience, Technology, and Digital Innovation: Driving Food Security, Sustainable Energy, and National Resilienceโ serves as the compass for the 2026 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) Science for the Youth, hosted by the Philippine Science High SchoolโCentral Visayas Campus in Cebu (PSHS-CVisC) from September 23โ25, 2026, at SM Seaside City Cebu.
The festivities kicked off on Day 1 with an energizing Opening Program graced by Dr. Tristan L. Abando, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) VII, along with guests, partners, sponsors, and delegations of students and coaches from 11 participating schools across Cebu, Bohol, and Negros Oriental. Dr. Rachel Luz V. Rica, PSHS-CVisC in Cebu Campus Director, officially opened the event and invited everyone to actively engage and immerse themselves in the wonder of STEM and innovation.
Two insightful plenary sessions also ran concurrently with the main event. Engr. Jeramel Marie M. Llona, Administrator and R&D Engineer at ERovoutika Robotics and Automation Solutions, highlighted โRobolution: Shaping the Future in the Era of Industry 4.0.โ Meanwhile, Dr. Ivy Corazon A. Mangaya-ay, Consortium Director of the Central Visayas Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium, shared actionable insights on โTranslating Research into Tangible Outputs.โ
Action-packed competitions followed throughout the day. In the Junior Science Demo (Science Communication Competition), elementary pupils showcased live demonstrations bringing scientific concepts to life. Simultaneously, high school researchers presented their breakthrough findings in the Research Poster Competition across basic and applied categories. Over at the DOST Region VII EOD Hall, participating teams sharpened their technical skills during an intensive Robotics Workshop led by Engr. Dominik Niรฑo, R&D Engineer at ERovoutika, in preparation for the upcoming contest.
Capping off an exciting first day was the Awarding Ceremony, which celebrated the brilliant winners of the Day 1 competitions.
