CTU ARGAO - BENRC

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: Students from Central Mindanao University (CMU) pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics were warmly welcomed by 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐫. 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐏. 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐨 during a Benchmarking Activity and Educational Tour held on April 11, 2026, at CebuTech Argao.

As part of the academic visit, the students explored the 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫, where they were given an in-depth tour of its facilities and laboratories. Among the highlights were the Food Innovation Laboratory, Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Genotoxicity and Cytotoxicity Laboratory, Biology Laboratory, Biodiversity Museum, Herbarium, and Madame’s Café.

The activity aimed to enrich the students’ academic experience by providing practical insights into research, innovation, and sustainable resource management, reinforcing the university’s commitment to experiential learning and academic excellence.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: BENRC Dir. Rosalyn P. Alburo served as a resource speaker during the 1st Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) Central Visayas Regional Congress at Waterworld Cebu on April 07, 2026. Flagging the theme, "Strengthening Climate-Resilient and Inclusive Agri-Fisheries Communities," the event brought together farmers from various AMIA villages from Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, and Negros Oriental.

On her talk, Dr. Alburo shared BENRC’s success in extending its research outputs through sustainable livelihood training and its continuing efforts in food development using indigenous food plants, aiming to address food security and champion alternative food sources.

𝐓𝐎𝐏 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘: DA-7, CTU-BENRC seal partnership to advance climate-resilient livelihoods in Central Visayas

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7 (DA-7) and the Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Research Center (BENRC) of Cebu Technological University-Argao Campus signed a Memorandum of Agreement on April 7, 2026, at the Waterworld Cebu during the 1st AMIA Central Visayas Regional Congress, formalizing a partnership aimed at supporting climate-resilient development in the region.

Present at the signing were DA-7 Regional Executive Director Angel C. Enriquez, DA-7 Research Division Chief and AMIA Regional Focal Person Fabio G. Enriquez, and BENRC Director Rosalyn P. Alburo.

Under the agreement, both parties will implement the project titled “Collaboration on Commodity Value-Added Development for AMIA Villages in Central Visayas,” covering all AMIA-supported villages in the region. The initiative will focus on product development, food processing, packaging, quality enhancement, and enterprise development support.

The partnership is expected to boost climate-resilient livelihoods, strengthen communities and enterprises, and provide research-based interventions and human capacity-building initiatives for Farmer Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) in AMIA villages across Central Visayas.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office VII – High Value Crops Development Program (DA RFO7-HVCDP) visited the CTU-Argao BENRC Tissue Culture Laboratory today, April 6, 2026. Their visit was aligned with the said office's ongoing initiatives to strengthen and enhance the value chain for key crops.

The visitors were welcomed by Prof. Hemres M. Alburo, Instructor Jannu Geuseppe C. Clemeña, and Research Assistant Arman D. Anoba.

The international conferences are being held on March 25–27, 2026 at Holiday Plaza Hotel, Cebu City, and are jointly organized by Cebu Technological University and the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: CNU-Balamban Campus Director, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐏. 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐥 leads the 2-day training workshop on the morphometric characterization of breadfruit varieties in Cebu, February 26, 2026, among selected faculty members and students from the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment (CAFE).

The training is under the DOST-funded project of BENRC titled "Inventory and morphometric characterization of breadfruit varieties in Cebu."
