โ€ŽRecently, Super Typhoon Nando (international name Ragasa) made landfall in Calayan Island, Cagayan, bringing maximum sustained winds of 215 kph and gusts up to 295 kph. The storm tore through homes, schools, and coastal communities, leaving hundreds displaced, cutting off power and connectivity, and severely damaging infrastructure.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽNow, Calayan needs more than emergency relief; they need support to rebuild homes, restore classrooms and community infrastructure, and help affected families recover their livelihoods.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThat is why the Office of the Vice President on Internationalization, Resources, and Mobilization and the CSU University Student Council Federation are organizing a Fun Walk for Calayan to raise awareness, show solidarity, and gather resources that will go directly to relief and rebuilding efforts.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽRegistration Fee is P50, and participation is voluntary, not mandatory. The schedule for the nine satellite campuses is as follows:
โ€Ž
โ€ŽLasam: December 10
โ€ŽSanchez Mira: December 12
โ€ŽAndrews: December 12
โ€ŽAparri: December 12
โ€ŽGonzaga: December 12
โ€ŽPiat: December 15
โ€ŽLal-lo: December 15
โ€ŽSolana: December 15
โ€ŽCarig: December 19
โ€Ž
โ€ŽYour step can help rebuild lives, restore hope, and show that even from far away, we stand with Calayan. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

What is the Board of Regents?

The Board of Regents (BOR) is the highest governing body of Cagayan State University. It was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 8292, also known as the Higher Education Modernization Act (HEMA) of 1997, which established a uniform governance structure for all state universities and colleges in the Philippines. Through this law, the BOR became the central decision-making body responsible for shaping the direction, policies, and priorities of CSU.

What is the function of the Board of Regents?

The BOR serves as the policy-making authority of the university. It approves budgets, sets academic policies, authorizes major programs and projects, oversees university administration, and ensures that CSU remains aligned with national goals for quality, accessible, and transformative public higher education. Every major decision in CSU, from curriculum updates to infrastructure plans, must secure the approval of the Board.

Who are the current members of the Board of Regents?

The CSU Board of Regents is composed of national government leaders, regional representatives, faculty and student representatives, and the University President. The current members include:

Hon. Shirley C. Agrupis โ€“ Chairperson, Commission on Higher Education (Chairperson, BOR)
Hon. Arthur G. Ibaรฑez โ€“ University President (Vice Chairperson)
Hon. Loren B. Legarda โ€“ Chairperson, Senate Committee on Higher, Technical and Vocational Education (represented by Hon. Urdujah G. Alvarado)
Hon. Jude A. Acidre โ€“ Chairperson, House of Committee on Higher and Technical Education (represented by Hon. Joseph โ€œJojoโ€ L. Lara)
Hon. Rose Mary Q. Aquino โ€“ Regional Executive Director, Department of Agriculture (DA - RO2)
Hon. Virginia Q. Bilgera โ€“ Regional Director, Department of Science and Technology (DOST - RO2)
Hon. Dionisio C. Ledres Jr. โ€“ Regional Director, Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev - RO2)
Hon. Carmelo O. Villacete โ€“ Alumni Regent
Hon. Ricardo B. Casauay โ€“ Faculty Regent
Hon. Kyle Aron T. Tan โ€“ Student Regent
Atty. April Gayle U. Soller โ€“ Acting Board Secretary

With this collective leadership, the Board of Regents remains steadfast in steering CSU toward academic excellence, institutional integrity, and student-centered development.
