At the start of this week, through unauthorized communication channels, bomb threat jokes and similar remarks have once again been circulated and treated casually.

The Council reminds everyone that in these challenging times, the utmost priority remains the safety and security of all stakeholders. Remarks involving bomb threats are never humorous matters to normalize. Such statements cause fear, disrupt peace and order, and may lead to real accountability under the law.

Through the continuing efforts of the university with the University Occupational Safety and Health Office (UOSHO) and the Civil Security Unit (CSU), stakeholders across campuses continue to be monitored and safeguarded.

Under existing laws, regulations, and institutional policies, the spreading of false bomb threat information or making such threats as a joke may result in legal consequences, disciplinary sanctions, and appropriate university action. In the Philippines, false bomb threat acts may be penalized under Presidential Decree No. 1727, which criminalizes malicious dissemination of false information regarding bombs and similar threats.

Let us help one another in making this time more bearable, recognizing that everyone is doing their best to move forward.

When such remarks are normalized, we risk becoming part of the very problem we are trying to overcome.
