Homeschool Culture: Homeschooling requires a significant amount of time from the parents. Since homeschooling is parent-led, a big chunk of time is required, and this is something that parents may have to think through before deciding to homeschool. This does not mean that homeschooling parents have to give academic lectures for eight hours straight or stay up late every night doing lesson plans. However, to make homeschooling work, parents have to be willing to dedicate large portions of their time to the effort. It does take a lot of time for us as parents to drive our children to various activities, facilitate group activities, and give occasional explanations and discussions. Some choose to spend a few hours a week tutoring their children in different subjects rather than hiring tutors. While some of us have found this lifestyle to be manageable, it is required that we as parents sacrifice our time. When we decide to homeschool, we will take on the duties and responsibilities of both a teacher and administrator. Though there are many ways for us parents to secure time for ourselves, it is important to recognize that we will spend more time with our children than we do currently.
