The tragic shooting at Ateneo de Zamboanga University has shaken the entire educational community. For us 𝗝𝗖 𝗔𝗖𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀, this is more than a distant headline—it is a painful reminder of the responsibility we share as educators, parents, alumni, and advocates for the welfare of our children.
Many of us in the 𝗝𝗼𝗰𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀. We understand the fear and worry of sending our children to school each day, trusting that they will return home safely. That makes school safety not only a professional or institutional concern—it is deeply personal.
Our prayers go to the families who lost their loved ones and to every student, teacher, parent, and school personnel affected by this tragedy. 🙏🕊️
In moments like this, let us choose 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆. Let us ask the difficult but necessary questions: Are our schools truly safe? Are our children being heard? Are warning signs being recognized? Are dangerous weapons kept away from our children? And are our systems strong enough to protect those who need protection most?
School safety is a 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆—of schools, parents, teachers, students, government, and the community. As JC ACIans, especially now that many of us are parents and guardians, let us stand together in promoting 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆, 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.
Let this tragedy awaken—not frighten—us. Let it strengthen our commitment to building schools where every child feels 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲, 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗱, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱.
Because behind every school uniform is a child with a dream, a family waiting at home, and a future worth protecting.
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆—𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆. 🙏🕊️
