Students from the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English and Chinese Language Teaching (BSEd Eng-CLT) program in Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation (CI-AUF), along with Chinese students majoring in Filipino language studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), conducted a joint China-Philippines Youth Online Dialogue on June 1, aiming to foster academic and cultural exchange between Chinese and Filipino students.
Representing CI-AUF in the dialogue were Arvin Jay Billones, Carl Dowen Manguera, Julia Austria, and Marialyn Arcilla from BSEd Eng-CLT 4; Allaine Jeanele Bautista, Alliyah Joi Combs, Cindie Loraine Maรฑalac, Ellah Mae Pingul, and Jensen Troy Garramonte from BSEd Eng-CLT 2; and Marry Grace Tan from BSEd Eng-CLT 1.
During the virtual exchange hosted via Zoom, the participants exchanged insights on foreign language studies, centering on the theme โๆๆไบ้ด๏ผ้ๆฅๅ่กโ (Mutual Learning, Shared Future).
The students shared their experiences, study habits, and best practices, highlighting the shared commitment of both universities to strengthening cross-cultural connections among the language learners.
The exchange enabled Filipino students to gain insight into how Chinese students study the Filipino language and culture, while Chinese participants learned more about the experiences of Filipino learners studying the Chinese language.
One of the CI-AUF student participants, Allaine Bautista, imparted encouragement to fellow language learners: "My advice is to always take the first step. Learning a new language may seem difficult at first, but every small effort we put into our work and what we do counts. Be patient, stay consistent, and especially don't be afraid to make mistakes, because it's part of the learning process. As long as we keep learning, weโll eventually see our progress."
The online dialogue highlights CI-AUFโs commitment to promoting global engagement and cross-cultural exchange, providing their students with opportunities to broaden their perspectives beyond the classroom.
