𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝟏𝟎 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐨 𝐍𝐂𝐀𝐄 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭

Potia National High School conducted the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) Pre-Test for Grade 10 learners on September 22, 2026, following the prescribed pre-test administration activities.

The activity included the gathering and verification of examiners, entrance and seating arrangements, discussion of CB-NCAE testing rules and mechanics, and system login.

Learners also accomplished the General Information section, Examinee’s Descriptive Questionnaire, and Career and Occupational Roles Explorer before logging out and being dismissed.

For the Grade 10 testing, Didith Dela Merced served as room examiner during the morning session, while Dexter Luis served during the afternoon session. Jovelyn Buway provided ICT support, and Maribel Donglay served as testing coordinator.

The conduct of the pre-test followed the prescribed sequence of activities for the CB-NCAE Pre-Test Administration, including the designated time allotments for each testing component.

A little soil, a few seeds, many helping hands—and dedicated advisers who turned bare spaces into growing spaces!

With creativity, dedication, and hands-on effort, class advisers took the lead in transforming their respective spaces into vibrant mini vegetable gardens. From preparing the garden areas and coordinating with students and parents to planting, arranging, and caring for the growing vegetables, their efforts has turned simple spaces into meaningful places for growth, wellness, and connection.

Heartfelt appreciation also goes to Principal Michael D. Bumulyad for his invaluable support, to the students who eagerly lent their hands and energy, to all the teachers who extended their assistance, and most especially to the parents who generously volunteered their time, effort, and skills in constructing the gardens.

More than just places to grow vegetables, these gardens provide everyone with a refreshing space to de-stress, connect with nature, promote healthy living, and strengthen teamwork and environmental responsibility.

Every garden tells a story of cooperation, and shared effort—proof that when teachers, students, and parents work together, even bare spaces can flourish.

𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐄𝐓 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Teachers of Potia National High School participated in the INSET 2026 on September 9 and 10 at the Grade 8 Vanguard Room to strengthen their knowledge and skills in research and innovation under the theme “Empowering Educators, Transforming Learners, Innovating for the Future.”

The two-day professional development activity aimed to equip teachers with relevant knowledge, strategies, and skills in conducting research and developing innovative approaches that can improve teaching practices and enhance learners’ educational experiences.

Through the training, educators were given opportunities to deepen their understanding of research and innovation while exploring practical ways to integrate these areas into classroom instruction and school-based initiatives.

During the activity, Master Teacher Maribel M. Donglay emphasized the importance of empowering teachers through continuous professional development, particularly in strengthening their capacity to use research and innovation in addressing educational needs.

“Research and innovation empower teachers to find better ways of responding to the changing needs of learners and to improve the quality of education,” said Donglay.

Meanwhile, the science teachers, represented by Charmaine Dela Cruz, presented their research proposal, highlighting the role of research in addressing classroom needs and improving teaching and learning practices.

“Through research and innovation, we can develop strategies that make learning more relevant, engaging, and responsive to our learners,” said Dela Cruz.

Furthermore, Science teacher Cornelia Taguiling underscored the value of the INSET in helping teachers gain new perspectives and practical knowledge that they can apply in their respective classrooms.

Taguiling said that the training provided teachers with opportunities to learn from one another, enhance their professional skills, and become more confident in applying innovative and research-based approaches to instruction.

Ultimately, INSET 2026 reinforced the commitment of Potia NHS teachers to continuous learning, professional growth, and innovation as they work toward providing meaningful and future-ready education for their learners.

𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐏𝐓𝐀, 𝐇𝐏𝐓𝐀 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬

Parents and teachers discussed learners’ academic progress, behavior, and other school matters during the second School Parents-Teachers Association (SPTA) and Homeroom Parents-Teachers Association (HPTA) meetings on September 3 at Potia National High School.

The meetings provided updates on ongoing project - TLE laboratory, learners’ Term 1 grades, and other matters requiring parents’ attention.

During the SPTA meeting, reminders on school paper and Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) matters were also discussed to parents.

Meanwhile, the HPTA focused on learners’ Term 1 grades and academic progress.

Parents and teachers also discussed the behavior and conduct of learners to address concerns affecting their performance and development.

Grade 10 parents participated in the Senior High School survey to share their preferences regarding their children’s possible senior high school choices.

Furthermore, the discussions allowed parents and teachers to raise concerns, exchange updates, and identify ways to better support learners.

𝐏𝐍𝐏 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲

PCpl Mario Gayyaman reminded Potia National High School students about responsible motorcycle use during an awareness activity on September 3.

The activity aimed to promote road safety and inform students about traffic rules, municipal ordinances, and penalties related to motorcycle use.

Moreover, the police officer, who was deputized by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), discussed the proper and responsible use of motorcycles among students.

Gayyaman emphasized that young people must live up to the words of Dr. Jose Rizal, who described the youth as the hope of the nation.

“Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan, kaya dapat natin itong ipakita sa ating mga ginagawa,” said PCpl Gayyaman.

He also reminded students about common motorcycle-related violations, including failure to wear a prescribed helmet, reckless driving, and the use of modified or excessively loud mufflers.

Gayyaman explained that violations of applicable traffic rules and municipal ordinances may result in penalties, with some fines starting at ₱500, depending on the offense.

Nicole Aliguyon, a Grade 9 student, said the reminder provided valuable information for students.

“This reminder is a great help because it teaches us how to be responsible and safe when using motorcycles,” said Aliguyon.

The activity ended with a call for students to follow traffic regulations and demonstrate responsibility as young members of the community.

𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

Questions that challenge learners to think, analyze, and apply knowledge took center stage as teachers participated in a School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session on Classroom-Based Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) Assessment on August 20, 2026, 4:00 PM at the Grade 8 Vanguard.

The session sought to deepen teachers’ understanding of HOTS and strengthen their ability to develop meaningful classroom assessments that measure more than learners’ ability to recall information.

Science teacher Cornelia Taguiling, the session speaker, discussed ways of incorporating higher-order thinking into examinations and other assessment tools by crafting questions that require learners to interpret information, analyze situations, and apply concepts.

“When we craft examination questions, we should not simply ask learners to recall what they have memorized; like PISA questions, our assessments should present situations that require learners to analyze information, apply what they know, and come up with sound answers based on their understanding,” said Taguiling.

Her discussion prompted teachers to reconsider how assessment questions can reveal not only what learners know but also how they use their knowledge when faced with unfamiliar or real-life situations.

AP teacher Ruby P. Bumanghat shared that the session helped her see assessment questions from a different perspective, particularly in creating tasks that encourage learners to explain their reasoning and connect lessons with situations outside the classroom.

“The session made me realize that a good assessment should allow learners to explain their thinking, connect ideas, and use what they have learned in situations beyond the usual questions in a test,” shared Bumanghat.

Moreover, the exchange also gave teachers an opportunity to reflect on their existing assessment practices and identify ways to make their examinations and classroom activities more purposeful.

The LAC session formed part of the school’s continuing professional development efforts, with teachers working toward assessments that encourage deeper thinking and provide a clearer picture of learners’ understanding.

𝐓𝐎𝐅𝐀𝐒 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝟕, 𝟖 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬

Grade 7 and Grade 8 students of Potia National High School participated in the second day of the Test of Fundamental Academic Skills (TOFAS) on August 19, 2026, at the ICT Room, using a global online assessment platform developed by SPRIX, Inc., a Japanese education company, to measure their fundamental academic skills.

From 7:40 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 88 Grade 7 students and 95 Grade 8 students were scheduled to take the assessment, with six Grade 7 and four Grade 8 students absent.

Mathematics teachers Rhea Ramoran, Jovelyn Buway, and Hrothliza Santiago facilitated the activity and assisted the participants throughout the testing period.

Developed by SPRIX, Inc., TOFAS is designed to measure learners’ fundamental academic skills and identify specific areas that may require further improvement. Through the assessment, students are given an opportunity to check their current competencies, while teachers can gain information that may help guide learning support and intervention.

Using computers in the ICT Room, students answered the online assessment while the facilitators guided them and ensured that the prescribed testing procedures were properly followed.

For Grade 8 student Liverty Cosme, participating in the assessment provided an opportunity to reflect on her learning and recognize areas where she can still improve.

“Taking the TOFAS assessment was a meaningful experience because I was able to check what I have learned and identify the skills that I still need to improve. I am also thankful to our facilitators for guiding us throughout the assessment even though it is quite difficult,” said Cosme.

Moreover, the results generated through the TOFAS platform may help teachers identify learners’ strengths and areas requiring reinforcement.

Through the second day of the assessment, Grade 7 and Grade 8 students continued to engage with TOFAS by SPRIX, Inc., gaining an opportunity to assess their academic skills while the school gathered information that may contribute to more responsive teaching and learning support.

A total of 164 Grade 9 and 10 students of Potia National High School took the Test of Fundamental Academic Skills (TOFAS) on August 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the ICT Room to check their academic skills and identify areas that need improvement.

Composed of 89 Grade 9 students and 75 Grade 10 students, the 164 participants were guided by Mathematics teachers Jovelyn Buway, Rhea Ramoran, and Hrothliza Santiago throughout the assessment.

TOFAS is a global online assessment platform developed by SPRIX, Inc., a Japanese education company, designed to measure learners’ fundamental academic skills and identify specific areas for improvement.

Furthermore, the students answered the assessment using computers in the ICT Room, while the facilitators guided them and ensured that the testing procedures were properly followed.

For Grade 9 learner Maria Nicole Aliguyon, the assessment was an opportunity to check her knowledge and recognize areas that she can still improve.

“I am thankful for this opportunity because I was able to test what I have learned. I also appreciate our facilitators for guiding and assisting us during the assessment,” said Aliguyon.

Moreover, the results of the assessment can help teachers determine the learning needs of the students and plan activities that address areas requiring further practice.

With the information gathered from TOFAS, the school can better identify where learners need support and help them strengthen their academic skills.
