ACNHS conducts SPJ orientation, qualifying exam for Grade 7 aspirants

The Alaminos City National High School (ACNHS) conducted its Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) Orientation, Interview, and Qualifying Examination for incoming Grade 7 aspirants at the ACNHS SPJ Building on May 26.
The activity gathered aspiring student journalists who underwent orientation, interviews, and qualifying examinations as part of the school’s screening process for the SPJ curriculum for School Year 2026–2027.
The event began with registration and preliminaries, followed by welcome remarks, messages, testimonials from current SPJ students and teachers, orientation proper, admission test, and interview.
Moreover, the orientation was spearheaded by Mr. Rey B. Pascua, Officer-in-Charge Principal IV, together with Mr. Jose M. Radoc Jr., Head Teacher IV in English, Dr. Eliza G. Abelon, SPJ Coordinator, Mrs. Elnora T. Raroque, Education Program Supervisor in English, Mrs. Edna Caserial, Education Program Supervisor in Filipino, School Paper Advisers, Dr. Christopher Montemayor, Mr. Vincent John Garcia, Mr. Roy Candado, and Mrs. Rizalina Necesito, and SPJ advisers, Mrs. Meliza Rabina and Mrs. Janice Donato.
CID Chief Dr. Orlando I. Guerrero in his inspirational message shared his quote, “Aim high and aim to be the best,” as he encouraged incoming SPJ applicants to pursue excellence in campus journalism.
Current Grade 10 SPJ students Chanel Angela D. Viray and Chrisha Danielle L. Abarra, together with Dr. Juvilou A. Boling, shared their journeys, achievements, and experiences in campus journalism throughout the years, encouraging aspiring applicants to pursue truth, discipline, and excellence in the field.
Furthermore, discussions during the orientation highlighted the program’s standards, curriculum framework, and retention policy requiring students to maintain at least an 85 percent grade in major subjects.
The SPJ program strengthens students’ skills in writing, broadcasting, photojournalism, and media practice while training responsible and ethical campus journalists in line with Republic Act No. 7079, which promotes campus journalism and upholds students’ freedom of expression.
Through activities such as school-based press conferences and other journalism initiatives, ACNHS continuously strengthens its campus journalism program to develop competent, responsible, and truth-driven student journalists among junior high school learners.
