A milestone in heart diagnosis.
The electrocardiogram (also called ECG or EKG) is today used worldwide as a relatively simple way of diagnosing heart conditions. Sensitive electrodes are placed on your chest, arms and legs and the electrocardiogram records small electric waves generated during heart activity.
Dutch scientist Willem Einthoven invented the first practical electrocardiogram in the beginning of the 20th century, and was awarded the 1924 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
