Empowering Our Coastal Communities through Sustainable Fisheries Skills! ๐๐
May 7, 2026, the 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (BSFAS) students successfully conducted an extension training seminar titled "Post Harvest Skills of Coastal Communities through Extension Training in Milkfish Deboning" at the DA Hall, Camagong.
The event, held as part of their Fisheries Extension course, brought together participants from 4K Camagong for a hands-on learning experience on deboning.
A huge thank you to our guest speaker, Mr. Jeric Villaruel from the Office of the Municipal Agriculture, for sharing his expertise
And we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the DA Office, headed by Mr. Franklin Gerard Belazon, for their generous support and for providing the venue for this activity.

A successful week for the Ichthyological Society! ๐๐
In celebration of the 34th Founding Anniversary of SLSU Alabat Campus, we successfully held our specialized exhibit from March 4 to 7 in Room MPH 3.
The event officially began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by our University President and esteemed guests from the opening program. Throughout the week, we showcased the innovation and dedication of our Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences studentsโhighlighting their projects, professional equipment, and thesis research.

PHOTO HIGHLIGHTS | Training on Fish Processing and Food Safety
Isinagawa ng mga 4th year BS Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences ng SLSU Alabat Campus ang kanilang makabuluhang Undergraduate Seminarโisang esensyal na requirement sa kanilang kurso.
Ang pagsasanay, na may temang Training on Fish Processing And Food Safety, ay naganap noong Disyembre 15, 2025, at isinagawa katuwang ang DA-LGU Alabat!
Ang seminar ay nagbigay diin sa modernong pagpoproseso at mahahalagang prinsipyo ng Food Safety at HACCP.
โAng proyektong ito ay nagpakita ng kahusayan ng mga BSFAS students at naghatid ng direktang serbisyo sa komunidad ng Alabat, na nagpapalakas sa kaalaman ng mga fish processor, asawa ng mangingisda, at iba pang estudyante.
Ang matagumpay na partnership at seminar ay isang patunay na ang edukasyon sa SLSU ay nakatuon sa pagpapaunlad ng lokal na sektor ng pangisdaan!

The GIS Training conducted in partnership with the LGU of Gumaca showcased the power of geospatial technology in strengthening local planning, environmental management, and community resilience. Led by Doc. Jobert G. Lomboy together with the five selected BSFAS-III students, the activity became more than a simple workshopโit was a meaningful collaboration dedicated to building the technical capacity of our local government.
With the active involvement of various LGU departments, the training served as a shared commitment to promote data-driven governance and improve the accuracy of maps, analysis, and decision-making within the municipality. This initiative plays a vital role in supporting disaster preparedness, resource management, and sustainable development for the people of Gumaca.

โA productive and insightful afternoon for our students! Today, November 19, 2025, the Seminar on Fisheries Management Areas and the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management was successfully conducted at Southern Luzon State University โ Alabat Campus, led by Mr. Jobert G. Lomboy. The event was attended by enthusiastic 3rd-year and 4th-year BSFAS students who actively participated and gained a deeper understanding of sustainable fisheries practices. This seminar aims to equip future fisheries professionals with the knowledge and awareness needed to protect, manage, and conserve our marine resources for generations to come. ๐๐โจโ

๐ฟ Mangrove Assessment Activity ๐
On November 13, 2025, the 4th Year BS Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences students conducted a Mangrove Assessment at Brgy. Balungay, Alabat, Quezon as part of their Fisheries Management Course. ๐งโ๐ฌ๐ฑ
During the activity, students recorded mangrove locations, species zones, conditions, and identified environmental pressures, they also established vegetation plots to measure tree height, diameter, community structure, and seedling density.
Mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining healthy coastal ecosystemsโthey provide habitats and nursery grounds for fish and other marine species, protect shorelines from erosion and storm surges, store carbon, and enhance biodiversity. ๐

Representing the SLSU Alabat Campus are student leaders from various accredited organizations, including the Supreme Student Council (SSC โ Alabat Campus) represented by Ms. Ella Marie C. Villamarzo (Executive Secretary), Ms. Lhalie Jane P. Gonzales (Finance and IGP), and Ms. Marriz R. Norada (Auditor); the Ichthyological Society (IS) represented by Ms. Jamille R. Angulo (President) and Ms. Roice G. Traqueรฑa (Finance); and the Technological Society (TECHSO) represented by Ms. Angela Marianne A. Tero (President), Ms. Hana Jamala D. Ungriano (Public Relations Officer), and Ms. Jessa Mae S. Arandia (Project Manager).

๐ฃ On-the-Job Training ๐
The 3rd Year BS Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (BSFAS) students have officially embarked on their On-the-Job Training (OJT) course starting July 1, 2025, diving into real-world experience in the field of fisheries for a total of 240 hours. Deployed at BFAR Hatchery in Perez, Quezon, and at ALQUEREZ AQUACULTURE INC. in Alabat, Quezon.
Through this immersive training, the students are being equipped with hands-on skills in hatchery operations, aquaculture management, and industry-standard practices โ bridging academic learning with actual fieldwork. ๐งช๐
This OJT is a vital component of the BS Fisheries program, as it strengthens the students' technical competencies, work ethic, and understanding of sustainable fisheries and aquatic resource management.
