Earlier today, Western Philippines University, Palawan Katutubo Mission–Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa, Inc. (PKM-AVPPI), and the PNP Maritime Group sealed their partnership through the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), in support of Project PAMANA focused on the protection and conservation of mangrove forests.

During the ceremony, WPU President Dr. Amabel S. Liao emphasized the importance of balancing environmental protection with the safeguarding of community livelihoods, affirming that sustainable conservation must be inclusive and people-centered.

Through Project PAMANA, the partnership strengthens collaborative efforts in environmental stewardship, coastal protection, and sustainable community development, uniting the academe, faith-based organizations, and government agencies toward a shared mission.

Pres. Liao moves crowd to tears as she delivers an impassioned Keynote Address to the 1st ever graduates of the Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Technology of the Puerto Princesa School of Arts and Trade (PPSAT).

Apart from inspiring the graduates to be proud TechVoc, HRT, and PPSAT Graduates, Pres. Liao invited the graduating class to enroll in WPU’s BS in Hospitality Management Program, which is made shorter through the ladderization of the PPSAT’s DHRT and WPU’s BSHM programs.

Braving Typhoon Wilma through a weekend and a holiday, WPU OUP through EA Joseph Dominic Liao - alongside Ar. Andrew M. Peñalosa of the TESDA Office of the Secretary Creatives Department, Ms. Shiara Kuh Conde of TESDA-PPSAT, and VSA Dr. Sean Andres-Catelo of the Coron School of Fisheries - conducts a Courtesy Call with the LGUs of Busuanga and Coron to discuss future plans for expanding higher education - particularly fisheries and agricultural education - in the two municipalities.

Discussions were held with Busuanga Mayor Hon. Raymond “RC” Cruz, Busuanga SB Committee on Agriculture Chair Hon. Albert Deraco, Coron Vice Mayor Hon. Asian Manasseh Lorenzo A. Palanca, and Coron SB Committee on Education Chair Hon. Mike Bonito Sadhwani.
WPU also participated in TESDA’s site visits and validation of crafts made by indigenous artists in the creative industries of Coron and Busuanga.

𝓐 𝓽𝓻𝓾𝓵𝔂 𝓾𝓷𝓲𝓺𝓾𝓮 𝓶𝓲𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓷𝓮!

Western Philippines University (WPU) marked another milestone in international collaboration as President Dr. Amabel S. Liao joined the University Incubation Consortium (UNIIC) Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and the launch of the UNIIC Research Collaboration Platform and Technical Report on December 3, 2025, at the Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation Institute of the National University of Cheasim Kamchaymear, Cambodia.

Since last year, WPU has been actively joining UNIIC, a growing global network of universities dedicated to transforming research into innovation and ideas into incubated solutions. Through UNIIC, WPU strengthens its role in cross-border research collaboration, startup incubation, and technology-driven entrepreneurship.

Western Philippines University President Dr. Amabel S. Liao recently completed her participation in the Strengthening Semiconductor Security Study Tour held from November 10–14, 2025, in College Station, Texas, USA.

Hosted by the Texas A&M University RISC Institute and supported fully by Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CDRF) Global, the program equipped highly selected leaders from around the world with best practices on research security, cybersecurity, insider-threat prevention, and risk management.

Dr. Liao’s participation highlights WPU’s commitment to upholding global standards in research integrity, cybersecurity, and institutional security—strengthening the university’s role in safeguarding innovation and academic excellence.

WPU conducts a courtesy call with Taytay Mayor Hon. Norbert S. Lim and SB Committee on Agriculture Chair Hon. Ben Salvame to discuss future directions for higher education in Taytay - particularly in agricultural education - that will be made possible through the partnership of WPU and PPSAT as delivery institutions with the Taytay LGU.

In attendance for WPU were EA Joseph Dominic S. Liao of the Office of the University President and Taytay Campus Administrator Mr. Noah Mejasco, joined by TESDA Palawan Provincial Director Mr. John D. Simborios, PPSAT Vocational School Administrator Dr. Sianita Tadlas accompanied by EA Shiara Conde

With the courtesy call, the WPU Main Campus SSC through the Office of the University President delivered relief packs to students of WPU El Nido and Taytay affected by typhoon Tino.
