Protecting just 0.7% of world's land could help save a third of unique and endangered species 08/09/2024

🦜🌳 Did you know that evolutionary distinctiveness and global endangerment are two key factors in determining the uniqueness and risk of extinction for a species? Those that score high on both measures are known as EDGE species, and the areas where they are found in high concentrations are called EDGE Zones. Let's work together to protect these special creatures and their habitats for future generations. Click on the image below to find out more:

Researchers pump extra CO₂ into an oak forest and discover trees will be 'woodier' in future 31/08/2024

🌳🪵New research shows that oak trees grow 10% more wood when exposed to higher CO₂ levels, similar to what is expected by the 2050s.

Researchers pump extra CO₂ into an oak forest and discover trees will be 'woodier' in future Oak trees accumulate more wood when there is more carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the atmosphere. That's the key finding from our new study, carried out in a long-established forest in Staffordshire, England, that we have turned into a huge field experiment by injecting with extra CO₂. After we increase...

🌞⛪️ Sunday Spotlight: St. Francis Xavier's Co-cathedral, Kuragaga, Rabaul.

Yesterday, we had the privilege of discussing the production of radio episodes to explore key bible themes with Ben Takap from Radio East New Britain and members of the Kuragaga Youth Group.

The history of the Catholic Church in New Britain began in Rabaul with the arrival of Father Renee Lanuzel from France at Nordup village in the year 1881. One year later, three Missionaries of the Sacred Heart landed nearby at Matupit village after travelling thirteen months by boat from Europe. The Apostolic Vicariate of Melanesia was established soon after in 1884.

Today, St Francis Xavier’s Co-cathedral continues to provide an important historical and spiritual centre for the people of Rabaul Town and Rabaul District. This beautiful building was erected in 1959 as a memorial to those who gave their lives serving the people of PNG and Australia during World Wars I and II. Its construction was generously funded by the Chinese community of Rabaul.

Stay tuned for more updates on our project that comprises animated videos with tokpisin voiceovers accompanied by weekly radio episodes.
