Notice.....!
Happy International Nurses Day to All Students and staff of Lene Research Institute.
To every nursing student at Lene Research Institute,
Today, May 12, we join the world in celebrating International Nurses Day. This day honors the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and recognizes the courage, skill, and compassion of nurses everywhere. To you, the future nurses of Papua New Guinea studying at Lene Research Institute, we say: Happy International Nurses Day.
You have chosen a path that is not easy, but it is one of the most important paths any person can take. Nursing is more than a profession. It is a calling to serve, to heal, and to stand beside people in their most vulnerable moments. As students, you are already living that calling each day in your classrooms, your clinical placements, and your research projects.
You are the next generation of care
Papua New Guinea faces many health challenges. We have high rates of maternal and child mortality, TB, malaria, and non-communicable diseases. Many of our communities are remote, and for them, a nurse is often the only health worker they will ever see. The training you are receiving at Lene Research Institute prepares you to meet these challenges. You are learning not just how to give injections or dress wounds, but how to think critically, how to lead, and how to advocate for your patients.
When you walk into an aid post in the Highlands, a health centre in the Islands, or a hospital ward in Port Moresby, you will carry the name of Lene Research Institute with you. Your skills will save lives. Your words will comfort families. Your presence will give hope where there was fear.
We see your sacrifice
We know the journey is tough. The long hours of study. The night shifts during clinical placement. The pressure of exams while worrying about school fees. Some of you are far from home and family. Some of you are balancing motherhood or fatherhood with textbooks and practical’s. Yet you keep showing up. You keep caring. That spirit is what makes a nurse.
Florence Nightingale once said, “I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse.” As students, you are already proving that same discipline and heart. Every page you read, every skill you practice, every patient you listen to is preparing you for the day you wear that full uniform and take on the title of Registered Nurse.
Research and nursing go hand in hand
Being at Lene Research Institute gives you something special. You are not only learning to nurse, you are learning to question, to investigate, and to improve. PNG needs nurses who can do research, who can collect data on what is working in our communities, and who can help design better health programs. Your training here means you will not just follow protocols, you will help write them. You will not just treat illness, you will help prevent it.
Our message to you today
On this International Nurses Day, we want you to be proud. Proud of the uniform you wear to class. Proud of the badge of Lene Research Institute. Proud of the difference you will make. The road to graduation is not far now. When times get hard, remember why you started. Remember the mother you will help deliver safely. The child whose fever you will break. The elder whose hand you will hold.
To the lecturers and clinical supervisors at Lene, thank you for shaping these future nurses. To the students, thank you for choosing to care. The people of Papua New Guinea are waiting for you, and we know you will serve them with knowledge, skill, and compassion.
Keep studying. Keep caring. Keep going.
Happy International Nurses Day 2026.
From the heart of healthcare to the future of nursing, we celebrate you today and every day.
From Mr. Halop.
