Momase students strengthen regional unity through UPNG Fun Day
Students from the four Momase provincial associations at the University of Papua New Guinea gathered on Sunday for the annual Momase Fun Day, an event aimed at strengthening relationships and promoting unity among students from the region.

The event, held at the UPNG Basketball Court, brought together members of the Morobe Students Association, Madang Students Association, East Sepik Students Union, West Sepik Students Association and Momase students from the Medical Faculty under the theme, "Creating Relationships and Strengthening Bonds that will Last Even After We Leave School."

Students participated in a range of sporting and recreational activities throughout the day, including football (soccer).
Additional entertainment included musical chairs and a dunking competition to crown the "Yangoru Drop Champion."

The presidents of the participating student unions said the event shared one common objective—to unite Momase students studying at the University of Papua New Guinea regardless of their provincial backgrounds.

They said the gathering encouraged students to build friendships, strengthen networks and foster a sense of belonging that would continue beyond their university years.

The event also provided an opportunity for students from different faculties, including the Medical Faculty, to interact in a relaxed environment outside their academic commitments.

The day concluded with participants sharing ice cream and reflecting on the importance of maintaining the spirit of togetherness and cooperation among Momase students.

Organisers said the annual event reflects the slogan "Students Together as One" and aims to promote friendship, collaboration and regional pride while creating lasting memories for students from Morobe, Madang, East Sepik and West Sepik.

End.

PUBLIC STATEMENT

East Sepik Students Union (UPNG) Decision Regarding Annual Sepik Night

The Executive Committee of the East Sepik Students Union (ESSU) at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) wishes to inform our members, sponsors, alumni, and the general public regarding our position on hosting the annual Sepik Night for this academic year.

After careful consideration and leadership reflection, the ESSU Executive Committee has officially decided not to host Sepik Night this year.

This decision comes from a deep commitment to the safety, academic welfare, and character of our students the emerging leaders who will shape the future of our province and country in the years to come. The Union recognises that hosting major nightlife centred fundraisers conflicts with our core duty to promote student well being, personal responsibility, and academic excellence.

Furthermore, the ESSU strongly supports the current administrative vision of the UPNG leadership, which emphasises academic discipline, safety, and maintaining clear priorities while on campus. As student leaders, we believe it is our duty to walk hand-in-hand with the University administration in maintaining a safe, productive environment for all students.

While Sepik Night has historically served as our major fundraising initiative, we firmly believe that risking the safety, studies, and welfare of our students is never worth financial gain. Sepik Night is not our only option there are many meaningful ways to raise funds without compromising student welfare.

Our Path Forward
Moving forward, the ESSU will pivot toward alternative, positive fundraising initiatives to fulfil our responsibilities, which include:
Supporting on-campus student welfare and necessities.
Hosting educational and informative events for students on campus.
Funding our sub-clubs to carry out end-of-year community outreach programs back home in the East Sepik Province.

We encourage our community, provincial leaders, and supporters to keep an eye out for our upcoming fundraising flyers and initiatives. By supporting these programs, you are directly investing in the growth, safety, and success of our future leaders, our communities, and our nation.
We thank everyone for their understanding, guidance, and continued support.

END.
UPNG ESSU.
