Google is set to lead a US$120 million undersea cable for Papua New Guinea, funded by Australia under the Pukpuk Partnership. This is hard infrastructure — the kind that decides whether a country can compete or fall behind 🌊📡

So how does this stack up against Starlink, which many people already rely on?

🚀 Starlink delivers speed fast. It works in the bush, on islands, and in places fibre may never reach. But it comes at a price — higher monthly costs, shared capacity, and performance that can dip as user numbers grow.

🌊 Undersea cables do the heavy lifting. They carry huge volumes of data, run steadily day and night, and push costs down over time. The downside is simple: they take years to build and mean nothing if onshore networks are weak or mismanaged.

🔥 🔥 ICAC Whistleblower Storm Rocks PNG! 🇵🇬💥

A political firestorm is shaking the heart of Papua New Guinea’s anti-corruption watchdog. Suspended ICAC Deputy Commissioners Graham Gill and Daniel Baulch have come forward — claiming their suspension was a retaliation for exposing alleged corruption within the agency itself. 😱

Gill says he joined ICAC in 2023 after taking assurances from Prime Minister James Marape, believing he could help clean up corruption. But now, he calls their removal “outrageous and unlawful.” Both deputies claim they were never told the reasons for their suspension — receiving the notice only by email. 📩

According to them, they had raised concerns about Commissioner Andrew Forbes’ conduct, fulfilling their lawful duties as required by ICAC’s Organic Law. However, instead of an investigation, they allege the Appointments Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, turned against them — initiating what they describe as a vendetta of fabricated complaints and retaliatory action.
