APIASETS — the Asia Pacific Institute of Applied Social, Economic and Technical Studies — has made a real mark in PNG, especially through its staff development and international study pathways.

*What the Institute has done well for PNG:*

- *Building human capital*: Sending staff like Mr. Walabi Mathew to institutions like Parul University in India shows APIASETS is serious about upskilling its people. That kind of exposure brings back technical knowledge, global networks, and new teaching approaches that directly benefit students and colleagues back home.
- *Bridging global and local*: By connecting PNG professionals to international universities, conferences, and industry events like the SPE Annual Fest, APIASETS helps localize global best practices. Topics like "Innovation & Entrepreneurship in the Energy Sector" are directly relevant to PNG’s resource economy and SME growth.
- *Raising standards*: Pursuing partnerships with NAAC A++ rated universities signals a commitment to quality. It tells students, parents, and employers that APIASETS wants PNG education aligned with international benchmarks.
- *Leading by example*: Investing in staff development instead of just infrastructure shows long-term thinking. Skilled, globally exposed lecturers and researchers are what lift an institution’s reputation and graduate outcomes.

*The bigger impact for PNG*:
Every staff member who studies abroad becomes a multiplier. They return with new curriculum ideas, research links, and industry contacts. For a developing country, that’s one of the fastest ways to close skill gaps in sectors like energy, health, agriculture, and education.

APIASETS deserves credit for treating staff development as nation-building. If more PNG institutions took this approach, we’d see faster growth in local expertise and less dependence on overseas consultants.
