Ialibu Secondary School Receives Save Books and Printer
We visited Ialibu Secondary School on Friday and donated Save Book Text Books along with a printer to the school administration and the students Body as part of our Book Drive and Awareness Campaign.
The Head Teacher Mr. Joseph Angoloma thanked the UPNG SHP Students for the initiative and said with the little they have in stock, the save books and printer will definitely help boost the learning of the students. He said said "Ialibu Secondary School came 6th among the top 10 schools in the country last year and we aim to do better this year and years to come".
He said not many schools in the country have access to save books but Ialibu Secondary School is fortunate to have luxury of save books for all the subjects taught in Upper Secondary School and so will be other secondary schools in Southern Highlands Province. "All thanks to the initiative of the UPNG students of Southern Highlands Province," he said.
Ialibu Secondary is the last school we visited from the Eastern End side of the Southern Highlands. We will visit Kutubu secondary school in the Nipa Kutubu District on Monday. We will then visit Nipa Secondary on Tuesday and then to Mogol and and Mendi later thereafter.

PANGIA SECONDARY SCHOOL MOVED BY OUR VISIT
We visited Pangia Secondary School on Thursday and witnessed a touching moment that left teachers and students deeply moved. Mr. Manuel Olap, a Language and Literature teacher became emotional upon receiving a long-awaited save book Text Book essential for enhancing his teaching. Due to a shortage of books and teaching materials, Mr. Olap had resorted to creating his own notes.
In a Facebook plea for assistance a few days before our arrival, Mr. Olap expressed his willingness to pay any amount for the needed Save Book Text book but he received no response until we arrived leaving him and others in tears.
The impact of this gesture extended to Mr. John Rumu, who had been searching for an Economics save book for an extended period. Despite his efforts, including visits to other secondary schools in Southern Highlands Province and neighboring provinces, he had been unsuccessful.
We delivered the sought-after Economics save book to Mr. Rumu, bringing an end to his years-long pursuit and instilling hope for the future of education at Pangia Secondary School.
We also donated a printer valued at K8000. This printer will enable teachers to produce ample copies of handouts for all students, alleviating the challenges associated with the single printer stationed at the headmaster's office.
Mrs. Jennifer Peter, the Deputy Head Mistress, emphasized the significance of these contributions, noting that the school had faced challenges in acquiring essential books and a sufficient number of printers. Mrs. Peter expressed gratitude and confidence that the education standards at Pangia School would significantly improve.

The new Apenda High School in Pangia which was recently upgraded from its status as a Primary School is the only high school we visited so far in our Book Drive and Awareness Campaign.
The Grade 10s from Apenda High School will continue on to do their secondary education in either Pangia Secondary School or Ialibu Secondary.
We were honored to be hosted by the villagers, the school administration, and the students on Thursday before we proceeded on to Pangia Secondary School.
Our representatives delivered motivational speeches and enlightening messages to the student body, with a focus on the importance of education.
We firmly believe that education is the key to success and the only way to bring about positive changes in a community and its people. By continuing to educate ourselves and others, we can create a better future for everyone.

The University of Papua New Guinea Southern Highlands Students is gearing up to travel to the Southern Highlands Province this weekend to conduct its much-anticipated Text Book Drive in Secondary schools and to initiate Awareness Campaigns covering critical issues like Law and Order, Education, Health, and more, commencing next week.
Our focus is set on a transformative journey dedicated to promoting education as the cornerstone of progress and prosperity. Education stands not only as the future of SHP but also as a beacon of hope for Papua New Guinea as a whole. The investment in education signifies a commitment to nurturing future leaders, thinkers, and creators, paving the way towards a brighter and more prosperous future.
We, the SHP Students of UPNG, have taken the first step in 2023 towards this vision. Our Fundraising Dinner at the APEC Haus in October was a resounding success. Through the funds raised, the SHP UPNG Students have purchased updated Secondary School Text Books, known as SAVE BOOK, covering all subjects taught in our secondary schools. This substantial investment in educational resources will greatly benefit the students of Southern Highlands Province and beyond.
Additionally, we procured 8 brand new printers for almost K8000.00 each for the 8 secondary schools (Ialibu Secondary, Nipa Secondary, Mongol Secondary, Kutubu Secondary, Pangia Secondary, Mendi Secondary, Kaupena Secondary, and Kagua Secondary) in the Southern Highlands. These printers will facilitate the production of lesson materials. The printer supplier, Central Business System not only offered discounted prices for the 8 printers but also committed to sending a technician to assist in calibrating the machines, further fortifying our educational support infrastructure.

Nestled amid stunning natural beauty, lies the Southern Highlands Province, a place once known for its peace, tranquillity and abundant resources, but it has faced unrelenting challenges in the past decade, challenges that have left it shattered and stripped of its dignity.
As we gather under the banner of hope and progress, we invite you to join us at the ๐

The Southern Highlands Province, while endowed with significant budget allocations, has seen its potential squandered. The reasons for this are many, but one essential element has been overlooked: Education. We believe that education is the key to unlocking the province's true potential. It is not just the future of SHP but also the beacon of hope for Papua New Guinea as a whole.
Investing in education is not merely an allocation of resources; it is an investment in our human capital, a commitment to nurturing future leaders, thinkers, and creators. It is a way forward towards a brighter and more prosperous future. By emphasizing education consistently over the years, we can look forward to an educated populaceโindividuals who are well-informed, responsible, productive, and, most importantly, committed to the betterment of our society.
Our vision is clear:
1. Achieve quality education for the students of Southern Highlands Province.
2. Boost the number of tertiary intakes from the province.
3. Foster a well-informed populace on matters of law, economy, and politics.
4. Encourage informed decision-making.
5. Revive, Restore, Rebuild, and Transform Southern Highlands Province through Education.
We, the SHP Students of UPNG, are taking the first step in 2023 towards this vision. We are launching a book drive initiative that aims to equip all high schools and secondary schools in the province with updated textbooks. This initiative will inspire and motivate the younger generation to strive for educational success, benefitting not only the province but also the entire country.
In addition to the book drive, we are embarking on an awareness campaign on law and order, economy, politics, and other pressing issues in the province. Our goal is to ensure that every citizen is well-informed and capable of making informed decisions.

These actions reflect a united entity capable of making a significant impact, and we continue to inspire others to work towards a brighter future for the province and its people.
