Continuation from the previous post...
Deeply inspired by the powerful words of Mr. Habuni from Carr Memorial Adventist School as our distinguished guest and speaker at the 2026 UPNG Literary Readers Society Orientation.
His journey with the Eat-and-Read Program facilitated with primary students in his school reminds us that true change begins with simple and intentional actions. Through reading, we build not only knowledge, but confidence, communication and connection.
May we continue to lead by example and nurture a culture where learning becomes a shared daily practice. πβ¨

National Book Week 2025 Recap β¨οΈπ
In celebration of the National of National Book Week (4th - 8th of August), the UPNG Literary Reader's Society (UPNGLRS) was privileged to play a part in this year's bookweek activities in a number schools in the nations capital. Working in partnership with the Office of Libraries and Archives (OLA), volunteers from the UPNGLRS were engaged to speak with, read to students, encourage and share inspiring stories with students across a number of schools in Port Moresby.
One of the UPNG Literary Reader's Society's core functions is to advocate for the importance of reading, especially for children at an early age, it was truly a momentous week for the UPNGLRS to be out there fulfilling this mission. More then anything it showed us just how important the work we do is and motivated us to keep going as there is still so much more to be done to improve literacy in our great nation.
"Reading our past, transforming our future" the theme for this years book week was quite fitting considering, that as we celebrate the country's fifthty year anniversary we hope to learn from what the past had taught us and build a better future for the generations to come.
The UPNG LRS would first and for most like to thank the Office of Libraries and Archives for trusting and allowing us the opportunity to work alongside them, furthermore we would like to thank all our volunteers who despite their busy schedules made the time to inspire the next generation. We hope for your continued support and will continue to fulfill our mission one book at a time.
