Check out these services. Self-learning support services are unavailable outside of school. To achieve academic success, these skills support and guide students to develop the ability to enjoy learning and become lifelong learners.
For learning in school, students need more guidance and support. Most support provided in schools is in the form of the teacher explaining a concept to transfer the knowledge to them. This is the first point of learning and is the teacher's familiar role. Only teachers can not make them learn, students must know how to learn on their own. Little guidance and support are provided on skills in students' own learning.
True academic success depends on students' own knowledge of self-learning and using them consistently. Emphasis on students learning skills and guidance is overlooked in our education system. The most support we can give to students is to guide them in building knowledge on skills for self-learning. With these skills, they can develop the detail and meaning of concepts the teacher introduces and discuss them with them in class. Self-learning skills to analyze and expand to understand instead of repeated rereading rigid memorization attempts that cannot increase their knowledge with understanding details.
To overcome this area of limitations in learning, check the consultancy services for facilitating self-learning in school. Before school starts next year, think of ways to support your children to equip them with self-learning skills.

Writing in English Practice
Writing in English to communicate ideas or information clearly and directly is useful and effective. There are basic rules and skills that we need to learn to write well. Many students have ideas but when expressing them in writing; it becomes unclear, too wordy, and confusing. The knowledge to write clearly and directly focusing on the point makes writing stronger. We have a writing practice session coming for students who know they are struggling to express their ideas clearly and to the point (concisely). This training will include;
English word categories
Active and passive sentence structure
Strong and weak sentences
Types of sentences
Paragraph structures.
Upgrade and matriculation students need to take this opportunity. This information will help matriculation students to write formal letters, fill sections in application forms clearly and equip them for tertiary-level studies. Training starts on the 14th of August and the K10.00 fee for registration. For those people, who are interested, talk to Mr. Anda, upgrade biology tutor with SBC matriculation center to register and start.
The students' low grades and performance are symptoms and signals indicating students' lack of knowledge of effective study methods for learning and maybe commitment. Showing merciful tolerance to pass students scoring just below the fail mark is a mask that can degrade the quality of education in the country if we do not take steps to correct them before they graduate. Learning to learn programs will help to correct and train them to improve weakness in students’ learning ability. Nothing done to help students in categories that I mentioned will result in campus graduating teachers with insufficient subject content knowledge, low logical reasoning and analytical abilities who will contribute little in good quality education for the younger generation. Our ignorance will tarnish Divine Word University’s (DWU) renowned efforts to promote quality education in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and will become a national education pandemic.
Many first and second-year education students' low performance in mathematics in 2018 and 2019 assessments prompted me to conduct a desktop research to explore first-year college students’ knowledge of effective learning methods. Limited research information is available online about PNG's s effort on educating and monitoring students’ knowledge and use of effective study and learning skills when enrolling in schools. Educators, parents, and education officers expect students to develop own study methods while learning, which results in some developing ineffective methods and approaches to learning.
I attended DWU Education Symposium in Madang last year and presented information I explored in my study on first-year college students' knowledge of effective learning methods in PNG. I have learned that many students’ low performance is not because they have low abilities but they lack knowledge of effective study and learning methods. Students who lack this knowledge are unable to organize and monitor their learning. This makes learning become a guess and check work for many students. Teachers who lack these skills will pass the weaknesses to their students.
I have used information compiled through research from other countries to develop this learning to learn program. The context may be different but the human have similar mind faculties and effective study skills can have similar effects on our students.
I wrote a notice to try this program in the beginning of this year and showed it to Mr. Chapok as a head of department (HOD) and chairman of CCAC. I have more than ten both matriculation and education students enrolled in this program already. While running the program now I am taking learning how to learn courses online and I feel that I can be able to help students lack study and learning skills.
The program covers the following areas
- Memory process in learning
- study methods that effectively influence memory processes
- Developing personal study time table
- Paragraph structure to identify main ideas for making own summary notes
- Best approaches to study technical subjects ( math and science) and non- technical subjects( English, history, economics )
This program has multiple benefits. Students not only learn effective study methods but memory processes, how to develop study timetables, summarizing paragraphs to practice writing information using their own words. Students pay K20.00 for the cost of stationery and printing because I issue a booklet containing information on the memory process and the study methods.
Let us not assume that all students coming to tertiary institutions know and use effective study methods.
Thank you for considering my request to improve the quality of our graduates. The competent graduates’ will reflect the trainers and the institution-training teachers and they will be our products.
Learning success is based on the information you can learn here. Keep moving on and find out. Thank you for coming.
Special and double portion offer
Learn about the individual learner’s mental process in learning (Learning about Learning) and an effective study method that effectively influences the mental process in learning
In my experience, the PNG education system offers students a curriculum to learn but does not teach other necessary skills: the students' mental process in learning, how to study and to organize self-learning or individual learning.
INFORMATION SESSION OF STUDY
Training on Effective STUDY Strategies at school (LEARNING TO LEARN)
Student study to learn. Learning skills or methods of studying effectively is learning to learn. Knowledge of effective study skills/methods is vital to make rewarding your time and effort, reducing frustrations and embarrassment of scoring low grades, and even making learning fun and worthwhile.
Generally, people expect students coming to territory schools and secondary schools to know and use effective study methods. However, not all the students coming to tertiary institutions know and use effective study methods. Many students struggle to learn and achieve low marks, performance below the expected level, and assessments in schools. This is not because of their lack of ability, but of their lack of knowledge and use of effective study methods. Many students use ineffective study methods, which results in retaining little of the concepts taught and assessed. In PNG, people encourage students to study hard, but most often do not tell of teaching them effective study methods. Re-ready study method most students are familiar with is limited and ineffective and does not challenge students to think at a higher level.
Each New year, children enter and leave schools. For students attached to formal education, Normal usual study life in college resumes now. Scoring good marks is the all-purpose of coming to school, and reflecting on learning. Not all students score high marks in all the subjects in school. Those of you who have struggled to score Good marks have committed more time, effort, and money. It is frustrating and humiliating to score low marks on the test. The instant magic is the study. Effective study methods can help save us a lot of time, eradicate low self-esteem and feelings that bother us so much, and even put so much stress on our parents and sponsors. Good marks mean a lot for living in college today and for the cost involved in education today and the future for this nation.
In-service teachers, this can be good for our children and the student in the school you are going back to teach
- Student who already does well in school works you need to see and confirmation which of the methods you have effectively used that help you memorize the material to learn well in school
- Also, we can effectively and confidently teach other children in school
