@Tiffany MARI
Meet Tiffany Mari, a 4th‑year medical student pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery under the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Divine Word University, she was involved in the Erasmus+ exchange program, a program that allows students from around the world to participate in student mobility institutional capacity building projects in Europe.
Her exchange took place at the Poznań University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) in Poland, where she spent almost four months immersed in a highly structured and resource‑rich academic and clinical environment.
She was driven by the desire to experience training in an institution with advanced medical resources, to observe different approaches to patient care, and to gain meaningful exposure to a healthcare system beyond her home country. The opportunity also marked her first journey overseas, making the experience both professionally and personally significant.
Throughout the program, Tiffany’s learning was shaped by evidence‑based medicine, multidisciplinary teamwork, and modern healthcare technologies. She observed advanced clinical procedures across multiple specialties, including orthopedic surgeries, interventional radiology, pediatric procedures, oncology diagnostics, and AI‑supported rehabilitation techniques, many of which she had previously only studied in theory.
She also gained insight into electronic medical records and digital health systems, witnessing how technology enhances efficiency, accuracy, and continuity of care. Exposure to palliative and patient‑centered care further reinforced the importance of compassion, dignity, and empathy in medical practice.
Beyond academics, living and studying in a different cultural environment contributed significantly to Tiffany’s personal growth, strengthening her independence, resilience, and openness to diverse perspectives.
Reflecting on her journey, Tiffany shares that the Erasmus+ experience has inspired her to become a knowledgeable, adaptable, and compassionate doctor, committed to continuous learning and to contributing positively to Papua New Guinea’s healthcare system.
Her advice to fellow students:
If you are given the opportunity to study abroad, take it. Step out of your comfort zone, embrace the challenge, and learn not just academically, but personally and culturally.
Congratulations to Tiffany on this incredible achievement, and for showing how global opportunities can shape future healthcare leaders in PNG!
DWU acknowledges Erasmus+ exchange program for giving its students a real world experience.
