Promoting independent play as a learning method for children is a powerful approach to foster holistic development and critical skills.

Independent play, where children choose and direct their own activities, provides a rich, natural environment for learning. In the context of PNG, where formal educational resources might be limited in some areas, this method leverages innate curiosity and creativity. Through independent play, children develop:

Problem-solving skills: They experiment, try new things, and figure out solutions on their own.

Creativity and imagination: Unstructured play allows them to build worlds, invent scenarios, and express themselves freely.

Decision-making abilities: Children learn to make choices, negotiate rules (even with themselves), and understand consequences.

Self-regulation and focus: They learn to manage their attention and persist in tasks they've set for themselves.

Social-emotional development: Even in solitary play, children process emotions, practice roles, and build confidence. When playing with others, it naturally fosters cooperation, negotiation, and empathy.

Language and communication: They narrate their play, interact with peers, and expand their vocabulary organically.

On July 23rd, we pause to honor the incredible bravery and sacrifice of our Papua New Guinean servicemen and women.

Remembrance Day is more than just a date; it's a profound recognition of those who defended our nation's freedom, from the battlefields of the World Wars (including the pivotal Kokoda Trail) to peacekeeping missions.

Their legacy forged the foundation of our independence and continues to inspire us to build a peaceful and strong PNG. Lest we forget. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¬
