Academics and anthropologists recorded these stories from Southern Highlands, Enga and Eastern Highlands more then half a century after missionary Stephan Lehner wrote down the same details from the Bukawas.The story tellers didn't know what these things meant however later were found to be ashes blown far their way from a volcanic eruption.According to the diagram on the 3rd page below Bukawa is within the circled range of airborne volcanic ash.Boths records possibly refer to the same eruption. Highlands story is found in this primary school story book below.

If you know the Jabim Language then read on.Over 100 years ago Bukawa people told Missionary Stephan Lehner about a time when the sky darkened and ash-like substance falling from the sky.Weighted down branches broke off.All birds couldn't fly,they came down and walked on the ground.Written records,from the highlands,of the same event is coming next.
