Cassavas Varieties for Climate Change Resilience

NARI' research has led to the development of new lines of cassavas that have demonstrated the ability to withstand extreme weather and environmental conditions. Four varieties are recommended for use in the lowlands. Vulnerable communities are especially encouraged to source these varieties to enhance their capacity to be resilient against negative effects of climate change.

Apart from other extracurricular activities being carried out in the department, peer sharing of experiences is what we believe most students can learn alot from.
From the picture are the final year and first year students after a panel discussion hosted by the final years as well as a post graduate rep. 𝐺𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑎 𝐻𝑜𝑚𝑏𝑢𝑛𝑎𝑘𝑎 on academic, social and spiritual aspects of life in such an institution.

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰?

The now department of Agriculture at PNG University of Technology (PNGUT) was first established as the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) in 1971.
After 15 years of its establishment at UPNG, the faculty was transfered to PNGUT's Taraka Campus in 1985.
Looking at the history of the department, the Agriculture Student Association has continued to be active for almost 35 years now at PNGUT by playing a significant role towards producing best research scientists with BSc, MSs, MPhil, PhD, and Professional status, extension officers, managers/manageress, CEOs, Managing Directors, lecturers and entrepreneurs, who serve in this country as well as abroad.
The history of the association has yet added another milestone by having a 5 year strategic plan (ASA Strategic Plan 2021-2025) launched in 2020 by the association executives and the association patron. This is the highlight of the history in the growth and progress of ASA now hosted in the Department of Agriculture at PNGUT.

Hello everyone and welcome to the PNG Unitech Agriculture Students Association (ASA).

The Agriculture Students Association comprises of both the undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is one of 13 departments in the PNG University of Technology.

The purpose of this page is to create a platform where:
*the students get to share their experiences and learning in the field of Agricultural Science in PNG.
*Secondary school students can be aware of what we learn and our input into nation building
*Connections with governmental organizations as well NGO's and other businesses.

We look forward to an active interaction with you all. Lest we forget, agriculture is the backbone of this nation, and so let us all work together in taking back PNG by first and foremost improving the agricultural practices and systems of our nation.💚
