Better late than never! 🇵🇬✨

Four days may have passed since the flags were waving high on September 16th, but our hearts are still full. We are so excited to finally share these highlights from our campus Independence Day celebrations!

One of the most special parts of the day was welcoming our fellow Pacific Island students to stand alongside us, proudly dressed in our beautiful Papua New Guinean bilas. Seeing our regional family embrace our culture and celebrate this great milestone together truly embodied the true spirit of unity, diversity, and family here at PAU.

"When I first walked onto the grounds of PAU as an 18 year old boy in 1992, the feeling of fear came over me... not because of anything scary, but because PAC had the presence of God. It depicted a picture of paradise."

Meet an absolute legend of Koiari Park: Uncle John Weda, Shift Supervisor for the Food Services Department. Having served Pacific Adventist University for an incredible 37 years—spanning the Farm Team (7 years), Security Team (9 years), and the Dining Hall (18 years)—Uncle John is the very heartbeat of our campus community.

From helping build the old dorms and the English church as a volunteer in the 90s to stepping in wherever he is needed across departments, his unmatched work ethic inspires everyone around him. What keeps him going every morning? It's the simple greetings and smiles from students and his deep reliance on God's daily protection.

His wisdom for our students today: "You are here because your parents are investing in your education. Finish with flying colours and make them proud by graduating with colourful transcripts."

"Putting God first really gave me peace of mind, and now I've got a job working as an environmental research scientist."

Meet Martin Magaru (Class of 2025), an inspiring alumnus making his mark as an environmental research scientist at SERACS Ltd!

Looking back at his time at Koiari Park, Martin remembers the unforgettable energy of the school games (SOST, SOB, SOHS, SOHET) and the lifelong friendships that anchored his education. Though he faced an 8-month waiting period after graduation before securing his role, he leaned heavily on his faith and Matthew 6:33.

Today, he carries the PAU ethos of 'Faith and Service' into his workplace, encouraging current students: "Put God first in everything you do, develop good habits to prepare for real-world challenges, and build your network—not just with your peers, but with your seniors."

"As I entered the PAU campus, I saw the buildings, the environment... and with that impression, it gave me an instinct that yes, this would be my home."

Meet Saini Donu Ratunabouwalu, a dedicated Year 4 Education student who has spent the last 3 years and 5 months turning challenges into stepping stones. From shedding quiet tears over tough assignment rubrics to finding peace, perspective, and prayer up on Cavannagh’s Hill, Saini’s journey is a powerful reminder of resilience.

Through the highs, the demanding Capacity Training Scheme (CTS) shifts, and stepping out of her comfort zone to speak on stage, PAU has shaped her confidence and character. Her advice to fellow students? "Always remember to accept challenges and responsibilities, because these minor details apart from studies lead to a greater personality in the future."

Meet Jenny Samuel, our dedicated Janitorial Supervisor who has poured her heart, soul, and 22 years of faithful service into the grounds of Pacific Adventist University! 🌿✨

When Aunty Jenny first arrived at Koiari Park in 2004, she stepped into a monumental task. Back then, lecturers were juggling heavy teaching loads alongside supervising student clean-ups. Remembering her very first classroom clean in the School of Science and Technology (Classroom S1), where Dr. Carol Tasker warmly thanked her for taking the weight off the academic staff, Aunty Jenny realized just how vital her hands could be. Over the last two decades, she has cared for classrooms, lecture halls, and the KPEC Church with unmatched devotion.

If you ask her what keeps her walking across campus every single morning, the answer is simple: she loves her work, and she loves her students. The best part of her day? Greeting every student who passes by with a warm smile and a loving, "Good morning, son; good morning, daughter." Though she once thought her work behind the scenes went unnoticed, messages and WhatsApp texts from graduated alumni thanking her for teaching them how to care for their spaces always bring tears of joy to her eyes.

Beyond cleaning buildings, Aunty Jenny’s heart beats for ministry. As a deaconess, she leads Sunday worship and Bible studies with her student work line, experiencing her proudest moments when young people give their hearts to Jesus. Her enduring message to every student walking past her is simple yet profound: cleanliness is next to godliness, because a tidy, well-kept environment helps foster a clear and peaceful mind.

Meet Josphine Vanessa Lotikena (Class of 2023), a proud Pacific Adventist University alumna currently shining brightly as an educator at Woodford International School in Honiara, Solomon Islands! 🏫✨

When Josphine reflects on her journey at Koiari Park, what truly stands out is PAU's unique, holistic approach to education. It wasn't just about hitting academic milestones; it was an immersive environment designed to nurture spiritual, social, and personal growth. That foundational experience taught her to view life through a broader lens, value people deeply, and recognize that personal growth is just as vital as professional success.

Stepping out into the real world and navigating the fast-paced demands of the workforce can be daunting, but Josphine shares that her time at PAU instilled in her a deep sense of practical resilience. Being part of a vibrant, diverse community taught her how to collaborate with people from all walks of life, adapt to unexpected situations, and lean on her faith through every triumph and trial.

Meet Folola Caroline ‘Ahau, a resilient Year 2 Education student whose journey here at Pacific Adventist University is a true testament to faith, courage, and personal growth. 🌿✨

When Folola first stepped onto our campus, she was instantly captivated by its natural beauty—the lush gardens, towering trees, and the peaceful lake creating a calm atmosphere ideal for learning and personal reflection. Whenever university life gets busy, you can often find her recharging and finding her peace up at Cavanah Hill, surrounded by the quiet embrace of nature.

Like many of our students, Folola’s path hasn't always been easy. Adjusting to a completely new environment and balancing heavy academic expectations required a deep well of patience and determination. But through earnest prayer, unwavering faith, and the comforting support of her family, friends, and lecturers, she learned that no challenge is ever faced alone.

Reflecting on her time so far, Folola shares that her biggest surprise has been discovering just how adaptable and resilient she truly is. If she could give one piece of advice to her first-day self, it would be this: embrace every opportunity, believe in your abilities, and never be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
