It is a true privilege to be mentored by Ruth Kissam, one of Papua New Guinea's most respected community leaders and human rights advocates. Ruth has dedicated her career to advancing gender equality, championing the rights of women and girls, and leading efforts to address Sorcery Accusation Related Violence (SARV). Today, she continues to make an impact as General Manager of Corporate Affairs at Steamships. 🇵🇬👏

What has touched me most is not only her remarkable leadership but also her generosity. From the very beginning, Ruth welcomed me warmly, believed in my potential, and willingly opened her networks to create opportunities and secure support for my leadership journey.

Her mentorship, wisdom, and commitment to empowering the next generation of women leaders are gifts I deeply value. I am sincerely grateful for her guidance and inspired to lead with the same courage, integrity, and commitment to serving others. 🇵🇬✅️

I was privileged to attend the four-day training hosted by OCEAN grantee Sea Women of Melanesia PNG, during their first-ever Community Representatives Training Workshop in Milne Bay Province last month June 17th - 20th. 🤍🇵🇬

Over four inspiring days, I witnessed 19 women from 10 communities come together to build connections, share experiences, and strengthen their leadership skills for managing Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs). 🪸 🐟

The training extended beyond the classroom, with practical ocean sessions where participants built water confidence and learned snorkelling techniques for future reef monitoring. Watching these women gain the knowledge, confidence, and skills to lead safer and more effective marine conservation efforts in their own communities was truly inspiring. 🌊

This experience reaffirmed an important truth that women are not only vital stewards of our marine resources but also frontline leaders in responding to climate change. Their local knowledge, resilience, and community-driven solutions are essential for building stronger, more sustainable coastal communities. 🙏💯

Investing in women's leadership is one of the most meaningful ways we can protect our oceans and ensure a healthier future for generations to come.
Congratulations to everyone involved in making this impactful initiative such a success!

What an absolute honor to be welcomed by great women in leadership roles at the National WPS Summit in Port Moresby last week, to be groomed through intergenerational mentorship! 🇵🇬♥️

I stand on the shoulders of women who chose to build a table big enough for us all, rather than protecting a seat for only themselves. Being mentored by those who have already conquered the race is a privilege, but being encouraged by them to surpass their own heights is the ultimate gift! 💯

Yet across the table, one message rang loud and clear from every woman in the political space: representation is not a favor—it is a necessity. We cannot simply talk about women's agendas; we must enforce them. Strong political will is the bridge between a good policy and a transformed reality. Without it, our voices echo in chambers but never reach the communities that need them most.

I leave this summit deeply aware that mentorship without action is incomplete. Honored to be a torchbearer of their legacies, but even more determined to demand the political commitment that turns our collective voice into binding decisions. Excited to pave new roads for the next generation of women behind me—roads built not just on inspiration, but on institutional power. 🇵🇬

It is an immense personal honor to write this as an emerging young woman leader, having witnessed the historic National Women Peace & Security Summit in Port Moresby last week. Standing in a room filled with veteran peacebuilders, advocates, and policymakers—alongside grandmothers and chiefs who have mediated tribal conflicts, and government officials shaping our National Action Plan—I felt the full weight of our nation’s history and the bright promise of its future.

For me, this wasn't just an event; it was a baton pass. This summit was a powerful reminder that peace is not passive; it is built daily by resilient women. As a young leader, I am deeply grateful to carry this torch forward—committed to bridging intergenerational gaps, amplifying grassroots voices, and translating the lessons on mediation, climate resilience, and ending violence into tangible change in our local communities.

The journey to sustainable peace is long, but last week, we proved that we are walking it together. I leave Port Moresby not just inspired, but equipped and fiercely determined to ensure PNG's peace framework is shaped by the energy and innovation of our youth.
