As we come together around the theme "Why Learner Directed Education is Crucial for Democracy, Freedom & Innovation." We don't know exactly what will happen, as the conference is a little different each year.

What we do know is that when incredible people get together around the ideas of liberation, shared power, democracy, and freedom for all, through learning-directed approaches to education. It provides space for the exploration of these ideas in a supportive community.

Freedom in education cannot happen without shared power and the freedom for learners to choose and direct their learning. None of this happens without you, collectively and individually, and the work you do.

As we hope is apparent in all of our work. We are committed to centering youth perspectives, amplifying their voices, and learning from their experiences as we continue to shape and strengthen our own practices.

At its core, we believe our collective work is about youth liberation and self-determination. This gathering will provide a meaningful opportunity to listen to young people, learn from their insights, and support them as they navigate their own paths.

Together with our commitment to building community, and our belief that it is important to examine the theme of "Why Learner-Directed Education Is Crucial for Democracy, Freedom, and Innovation," this gathering will create space for action-oriented dialogue, relationship-building, and collaboration.

While we recognize that these conversations can lead in many directions, we feel a responsibility to explore and support educational models that foster self-determination, agency, and civic participation. When learners have the freedom to direct their own educational journeys, we move closer to a more just, democratic, and sustainable society.
