Throughout the years, women have been subjected to various disparities in the workplace, and mothers are not exempt from this. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, a woman’s earnings falls almost 7% when they become mothers. This phenomenon has been described by sociologists as the “Motherhood penalty” and does not only affect women in pay, but also in hiring, promotions and other work benefits.

In this SOCHUM committee, it is your job to address the root of these disadvantages by analyzing women’s role in society as well as proposing various solutions to guarantee work-family balance and equity in the workplace.
