At Chaska, we encourage our girls to chase their dreams. We do this because most girls in Perú are encouraged to follow a more traditional course in life, in which they usually can’t chase their passions.
The statistics of the INEI (Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática) confirm this as well. According to the level of education attained, the participation rate of men is higher than that of women at all educational levels. More men (81.5%) than women (63.5%) participate in economic activity as well.

In this day and age, you hear a lot about the gender pay gap. But how is the pay gap in Perú? Apparently, there is a big difference in income between men and women. This difference is additionally present in all age groups as well.
Men obtain a higher average monthly income per job (S1526.7, which equals to €388.28 or $417.13) than women (S1027.8, which is €261.55 or $280.82), with a gap of 498.9 nuevos soles. The differences in income between men and women are present in all age groups.
The exact reasons why this pay gap is there is not specified. So what do we do about this at FairServices? We encourage our girls to take matters into their own hands and not let their gender define them. If they’re passionate about something, we’ll encourage them to chase that passion.

How is the workload at FairServices?
“In my opinion, they are free and flexible, but also very open. And this freedom causes the work to become more challenging as well. I really feel like there is a good balance between having a critical view and supporting each other.”

Do you feel like the volunteers and interns have an influence on the girls?
"Yes, absolutely, but not how they would expect it. The volunteers and interns that come here are independent young people that are doing something with their lives, such as traveling, discovering cultures, spending money on freedom etc. In Peru, everything is expected to be more traditional for the girls and none of this is possible. This is why they are a positive role model."
